Woman hit by Cyclist awarded a payout

Yes - the woman who sued him should be ashamed of herself - she made a mistake - but so (maybe) did he - both came off getting a bit hurt (no mention of broken bones etc etc) So - 50:50 - but no - she gets a good expensive lawyer and goes after a payday

    electric scooter/skateboard laws

You say you would not ride it on the road - but other people will. I even keep seeing one on groupon advertised as a 'commuter scooter'. The detail say off-road but do not make it clear that it is not road legal in any way. They do look like good fun - but I would prefer them to stop better!

Woman hit by Cyclist awarded a payout

The only way I can make the judges comments make sense is if the pedestrian stepped out and the cyclist did not immediately slow down but yelled and reached for his horn - hence the judge is saying that the default action should be to stop in an emergency. This would be the case for a car in...

    electric scooter/skateboard laws

Thanks - I was only partly aware of the range of law there is. I suppose that there is a problem with people working out where each new craze fits and what to do with it - it ends up being a game of whack-a-mole - and by the time the police have guidance on a new device they have gone out of...

    electric scooter/skateboard laws

My worry about powered devices like hoverboards and unicycles is their stopping distance. If they are going to be allowed to go at 15 mph in areas where there are people walking then sooner or later someone will walk in front of one. If a device going at 15 mpg stops quickly (or tries to) but...

    bike laws

Problem with some of these things is that there are no brakes (or are there????) - I know I can stop my bike quickly if something happens - but things like hoverboards or that unicycle don't look capable of stopping from 15 mph at all quickly

Do any ebikes still have throttle?

Thanks - just wondering - can all bikes be converted to have a throttle or do you need to have a controller/motor designed to work with one?

Do any ebikes still have throttle?

From the .gov website The bike must also be type approved if either: it does not meet the EAPC rules it can be propelled without pedalling (a ‘twist and go’ EAPC) This should have been done by the manufacturer or importer before you bought it. If it’s been type approved, it will have a plate...

Do any ebikes still have throttle?

I think anyone selling you a new ebike with a throttle may be being a bit economical with the truth. As far as I know no bike sold since 1st Jan 2016 can have a throttle (except for the walk assist ) otherwise it doesn't count legally as an ebike. They may sell you one - but if they say that...

    bike laws

There do seem to be a few of these around - there is a common one on Groupon for a 'commuter scooter' - no pedals or any pretense of being an ebike - clearly not allowed on UK roads - but the description gives the impression that you can use it to get to work - Think I might look at how to...

    hello

The info that you need is on here https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/product-news/electric-bikes-uk-law-234973 to be short the law changed on 1 Jan 2016 to make throttle illegal if it was imported/made/originally bought (I think) before 1 Jan 2016 then it has Grandfather rights and is allowed...

UK petition to raise cut-off limit

Yes - my concern would be that raising the speed cut off limit would come with restrictions to the use of ebikes - such as no longer being classified the same as 'normal' bikes - hence not using shared cycle paths etc etc. At the end of the day no-one can tell if my bike has a cut-off of 15 mph...

    annoying clicking noise

I have this sort of problem on mine sometimes. What I find is that it is caused by the type changing shape when my weight is on the bike - making the tyre catch on the mudguard. It is a pain to fix.

Alternative battery for Powacyle Windsor/Salisbury - will this work?

well - from my point of view - it fits into the existing battery container properly and looks good. I saw options to mount a different generic battery on the rear rack but this moves the centre of gravity backwards. Maybe I'm naive - but when I spoke to Jimmy at BGA I was convinced that...

Alternative battery for Powacyle Windsor/Salisbury - will this work?

I paid about £230 to recell Powacycle Salisbury - much less than the price of a new battery - which was unavailable at the time and still seems to be. This included using better cells and increasing the Ah to 17 The range is much greater than it was when the old battery was new - it was a...

Alternative battery for Powacyle Windsor/Salisbury - will this work?

I got my Powacycle battery recelled a couple of months ago by this company https://bga-reworking.co.uk/product-category/all-products/e-bike-batteries/ They seem very good and efficient - I also got the Ah increased to 17 while I was at it - it only cost a bit more - and used Panasonic cells...

    Help! Chain coming off

There is no way a new ebike should have a chain that comes off - if the bike shop has had it back twice and it is still happening then they are not much good - or are ignoring you. You do have rights to return it if they can't (or fail ) to fix it more than a couple of time. I think you need to...
