    Throttles

Remember that the pre-2016 ebikes that can have a throttle also have to comply with ALL the pre-2016 regs which mainly means that the motor is limited to 200W rather than the current 250W When I traded my pre-2016 bike in for a modern one the difference was very noticeable - especially on hills!

Grant Shapps wants a speed limit for cyclists

I have been looking and the sites I normally look at only show his proposed law for all the 'killer cyclists' - no mention of speed limits anyone got a link?

Grant Shapps wants a speed limit for cyclists

I have to agree about the speed bikes go at. As said above, when I ride on my ebike my speed is generally around the 15 mph cutoff - sometimes a bit over on a nice road. Very few cyclists pass me and I catch up with most people in front of me. Therefore I conclude that the vast majority of...

    Raleigh Array repair or upgrade

The problems with ebikes is the battery If it is not kept properly charged then they degrade quite badly and need to be replaced and your low usage would imply that it has been sitting unused for quite a long time between charges This could have damaged the cells. Hence they need to be replaced...

Bosch Active Line Motor Casing - Creeking

I have a Raleigh Motus and it has been creaking up pedal load for years. The LBS has looked at it and all the bolts etc are fine I read somewhere that this can be caused by the torque sensor In any case, on mine it has been there for over 6000 miles and hasn;t got any worse

    Pedelec Law - The Details

2.8" inch off road tyres??? how are they on the bumps?? sorry - had to be done I assume you mean 29inch I also normally use the lowest assist mode - I don;t have a none assist bike but I do wonder how much more effort it would be ALthough I do tend to go faster in Eco assists level than...

    Best puncture resistant tyres?

I have had a continental on the rear for about 2 years - I got it when the tyres that came with the bike started getting worn out Once I got rid of an old inner tube I have had no punctures at all Until last week when a thorn got through. When I looked the thread is getting quite think on the...

    Pedelec Law - The Details

ROund here if you look carefully - and you do need to look carefully - most of the ones out during the day seem to be legal However once it gets later on you can see quite a few that seem to require suspiciously little in the way of pedalling - and some with fairly massive hub motors that have...

    Pedelec Law - The Details

Yes - except teenage boys because they are invulnerable, indescructable and so great at controlling their bike that they can always avoid any problems until they can't which is the problem - still - most of then grow up

    Throttles

This is all interesting - I am thinking of it as a possibility between cycling and needing one of those scooter things. Hopefully that'll be a few years off!!!

Interpretation of the Highway Code changes

I have always given way to pedestrians waiting to cross - if it seems safe not so much to be nice to them - more just in case they do something dumb a head can make a really bad dent in a bonnet!!! When I have done so since the 'changes' people have reacted exactly the same as before - check...

    Cyclists avoiding cycle lanes

There are a lot of cycle lanes around the main roads here and most are in pretty good condition. DO I use them? Sometimes - and some lanes. The problems are many fold. a) for some you can be riding along for a while and only then realise that the pavement next to the road is a cycle lane - no...

    Battery capacity and longevity

That is quite a lot but not excessive depends on how well you have looked after the battery but with good quality cells I wouldn;t be surprised if it was OK for a while - but maybe not the same again. I have certainly noticed that my ebikes get less mileage from the battery in cold weather - I...

    Throttles

on another forum that has an ebike secion - someone has posted that Wisper are fitting a throttle to their new ebikes now - I cannot say that he has a wonderful reputation - but he does seem to know stuff about ebikes mostly but some of the conversation seems to say that a throttle that...

    Dropped Battery

If everything, including the lights, are working OK then I would assume all is OK I'd still charge it on a fireproof base though You could contact an expert like ebike-batteries and see if they could inspect it - of course they would have a vested interest in saying there is something wrong...

    Best security locks?

An ebike with no battery is just parts to a thief because they are not going to sell it without the battery - which costs several hundred pounds In my opinion, if I am going out of sight I put at least 2 locks on the bike - one of which is Sold Secure Gold - kryptonite as it happens - as...
