    Winter tyres

The only one I found was this one. Given it's from Norway I guess it's not too bad a review. Review Continental Top Contact Winter | Chain Reaction Cycles Reviews PS I notice elsewhere that Aldby wasn't much impressed with the non winter version Top Contact compared to the Marathon Plus.

    Tongxin motor in non-steel forks

As Harry says Cytronex seem happy enough with the Tongxin and non steel forks to ride them and sell them. My 7.3FX is non steel. I believe the Trek 7300 is aluminium suspension. I thought carbon forks may have been a problem but apparently not.

    Winter tyres

Also non-studded Conti - The Top Contact Winter contains sharp granules in the rubber compound, thus aiding grip in wet and snowy conditions. I get the impression they're not as good as studded in the heavy stuff though.

    Winter tyres

Interesting link. Are carbide studs really that hard wearing?: Q: Most days in winter there's no ice on the roads. Should I swap out the studded tires for regular tires when I know there won't be ice? Won't my studs last longer if I don't ride them on clear pavement? A: No. You should...

    Winter tyres

I'm mostly going with car tyres this year. Perfect biking tyres for the winter in the UK is a bit of a tall order given how fast the weather changes. It never stays on the road long and then it's tarmac slush and black ice with good spinkling of salt and grit and numb fingers for good...

    Marathon Plus disappointment

With an eye on the pleasant scenery who knows what lies in wait. Bad luck. Having had a couple of car tyre punctures this year it seems no matter what (solids excluded) eventually you're going to go down. :(

    Bike Workstand

Totally agree. Anything like that is always a good long term investment. I pulled something in my back that gave me some jip for about a week a couple of weeks ago. I reckon that was losing control reinverting the bike (no damage to the bike though - phew!).

    Bike Workstand

Jerry - I find the only thing that gets in the way on the 7.3 is the LED lamp. It is adjustable and you can push it down a bit so it's clear but still usable. To get the front wheel off the ground (for adjusting the brake cut outs) I use a couple of high backed chairs (one each side of the...

    Cytronex Trek 7300

Hi Jerry: I have no problem with blipping the brakes. I think it works well. The brakes shouldn't actually come on when you blip them so there's no loss of speed or wear. Also they do need adjusting (with the front wheel off the ground, turn screw till motor cuts out and turn back 3/4 turn etc)...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

Bit off thread (I forgot what it was) but definately not cheating and good exercise - but I do 8 miles a day and my thinking went along these lines. If the bike is 4 times more efficient than walking that's the equivalent of 2 miles of walking. The electric assist must reduce this a bit...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

Personally I don't like cities myself - city centres that is. I find them far too noisy and and rarely feel safe and at ease. Last time I was working in London I was quite surprised at the relative lack of traffic compared to many years previous. Also the air semed somewhat fresher. You could...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

I believe the idea of an independent London has been seriously considered. I seem to remember it was once fancied as a Tiger economy(obviously during the boom years). It's got the population so makes as much sense as an independent Scotland.:D Pete500: I've found most cyclists be a really...

    Cytronex Trek 7300

Know what you mean Harry. The weather will be cooling down soon and that means I'll be able to apply more leg power before I hit the profuse sweat barrier. The distances I do don't really warrant the extra power and it conflicts with the "exercise program". Extra 1.5 -2MPH assist - is it really...

    a service manual for bikes....

I have the Haynes Manual, the Total Bike Repair and maintenance Bikeradar book (£10.99 from Sainsburys (very good)) the owners manual and the internet. To be honest I find the videos on the internet the most helpful.

    Cytronex Trek 7300

Sounds good - Winchester is hilly. Was you cycling generally on good long stretches of road though. It's the constant town cycling, brake/stop/strart/accelerate, that I find heavy on the battery - not to mention a few short but killer hills. Once up to speed and if maintaining momentum for a...

    Cytronex Trek 7300

I've been tempted by the 190 myself and come close to ordering one. In practice I think I'd just go a few MPH faster and drain the battery a bit faster. Can't make up my mind whether it's work a couple of hundred quid. I think I'd rather get a spare/2nd battery. BTW I never push my hub...

    E-bike article in today's Guardian

Yes, good post Phil. I had that High Blood pressure (it was high) and evidence of a "heart attack" ,apparently (don't remember having one), about 8 years ago. I took up some serious exercise especially walking a lot and by the time I got to see the cardio a couple of months later and get a...

    Cytronex Trek 7300

Same here. I don't notice it, even unpowered, unless I listen for it. It first concerned me last year when spinning the wheel at home. I contacted Mark at Cytronex who described it as a slushing sound which I thought described it nicely. It's normal and not an indicaion of a problem. I've...
