    A ray of hope?

Local traffic this morning was extremely low. Great ride into work. The kids have broken up for the school holidays :) . I've come to the conclusion that for many towns and cities school runs and local shopping trips are a bigger problem than commuters. Home working is quite widespread in our...

    A ray of hope?

I wonder if the bike will outlive the internal combustion engine. Maybe Star Trek got it all wrong and bamboo bikes are the future.

    A ray of hope?

Sorry I specifically meant MY computer. Mind you I still wouldn't trust a computer in control of "autonomous" high speed transportation even if it doesn't get frustrated, tired, drunk, distracted, impatient, or have an ego. I'll wager that by the time they can chauffer me around in a fast car...

    A ray of hope?

I wouldn't let my computer anywhere near high speed transportation

    Cytronex lacking "go"

Cytronex Trek 7.3FX 175 RPM Tongxin Nano Hub (Last Years bike). PS. Just in case there's any confusion HarryB has the problem. I'm OK.

    A ray of hope?

So a rosy future for the humble bicycle then :) Extra points for me for being upbeat. "i.e. a car that is able to hop on to a "train" for longer journeys." Scalextrics spring to mind.

    A ray of hope?

I've considered renting cars as well. It's a great idea if your circumstances are right. Due to other considerations, largely to do with off site buisness travel, mine really aren't. My own car use has been substantially reduced though. For local travel bikes really are the way to go and I can't...

    A ray of hope?

I don't think the economic crisis has anything to do with it. The internal combustion engine is brilliant. The only problem is there's far too many people using them. As for electric cars more than 80% of the UK's electricity comes from burning coal, oil and gas, the fossil fuels which produce...

    Cytronex lacking "go"

Top speed, no load 17.9mph Low speed, no load 14.9mph Battery fully charged this morning but not used today. Batterys probably done about 1200 miles (about 60 charges) in total. Mark I tried 3 of those bikes but the memories are fading.

    Dartford power cut

On the bright side at least it didn't happen in winter. I missed that story here's the link: BBC NEWS | UK | England | London | Homes still without power supply Extra rations for you then.

    A ray of hope?

I discarded it years ago and I haven't seen anything to convince me otherwise.

    Cytronex lacking "go"

Hal, torrential rain means I'm in the car today but I'll check the "no load" when I get home. I'm assuming by "no load" you mean what speed shows on the speedo with a fully charged battery and the front wheel off the ground and running on boost?

    Cytronex lacking "go"

Mmmh definately something wrong there. Have you contacted Mark at Cytronex yet? My 7.3fx pulls fine although I never did get any squealing if I put the boost on to soon (which I've done a few times in error at next to no speed at all). I can't say the pull on mine is noticably worse than the...

    Big Brother

They're more likely to make cycling helmets and insurance compulsory, and thus reduce the number of cyclists on the road. I'd like to see something a bit more positive like taking the taxes off all cycling goods. Perhaps they could encourage shops and businesses to go green by offering...

    BH e-Motion Wins e-Vehicle Challenge

I'll say. I make that 84 miles, over similar terrain and with the stamina. Just think fit the 2nd battery and it could be 168 miles. Sorry I'm getting a bit carried away I know but the Cytronex Synapse with 2 batteries and chargers is a very interesting proposition if you know what I mean.;)

Aldi bike stuf, Thu 16 July

Yes, apart from some cheap plastic cycle pumps, inner tubes, some hi-vis bits and kids helmets that's about it. Given their size compared to Lidl & Aldis you'd think they'd make a bit more effort. Same goes for Tescos. Those gloves are tight. I tend to wear my Trek ones now (bought in a sale...

    Group meetings?

I think this is a great idea. Sadly it's too far to get to on my bike - about 5 days for me! The 2 seater petrol miser is up for replacement soon and the first thing I'll be sorting out is a bike carrier.

Aldi bike stuf, Thu 16 July

I only go in there to check the bike stuff out - honest :o . Now Sainsburys bicycle section really is depressing.:( Also apart from a couple of star purchases I've found you can't beat quality items from the internet and the local bike shops. Some of that Aldi stuff looks good but falls to...

    Review of Kalkhoff ProConnect S.

Very impressive. Something I could have done with this morning in a very similar position. I can't do it, though, having only an on off and boost button. I'll bet you made a few drivers very nervous.
