    4G routers

Ok, done a speed test on the 4g and it's come in at 9.3Mbps. That's over 3 times faster than the best previous speed. Plusnet are falling over themselves trying to get me to go to full fibre but they can't match the prices and I no longer believe anything they say about prices or speeds. Open...

    4G routers

Seems like they're e mailing it - works for me. Haven;t done a speed test yet. Been busy setting up voip phone service. My head is spinning. Time for a glass of Merlot methinks.

    4G routers

So I've activated the 4g router and it seems to be working fine. Good 4g signal strength and better wifi than the plusnet router. Here's the rub. On signing into my account I was asked to activate two factor authentification for any further sign ins. They said they would send a text to the...

    4G routers

Yeh, there seem to be a few older dated posts on gg forum that show problems with 4g routers or tethering. It looks like, from 2023 onwards, this got sorted. As you say probably new tech pushing the issue. Still can't find a definitve answer though. Currently looking for a voip service...

    4G routers

That's what I haven't yet been able to ascertain. This sim will be used in a 4g router feeding a laptop and a pc. Not generally both in use at the same time.

    4G routers

Very unsatisfactory chat with Plusnet rep yesterday. He tried to tell me that, with the 2 year deal I was being offered, I would end up paying less than I was now. He got very defensive when I said I'd heard it all before and that that was never what ended up happening. He told me voip...

    4G routers

Yes I bought the TP-Link MR600 dual band. Laptops have sim slots?o_O When did that happen? You see, in my world, you still have to plug one black box into another with a physical lead. Technology has moved beyond my need of usage. At the moment I'm trying to find a home for an analogue...

    4G routers

Good show. I'm close, I have the router which works as far as the lap top picking up the wifi. Waiting for the sim now - keep hesitating. Think it's going to be giffgaff 'cos the only other non contract sim, that offers a data only sim, seems to be Smarty and that's on 3 which is not so good...

    4G routers

OK, Cex have just mailed giving a full refund on my card. So 30 mile round drive to curries it is - at least I can get to Lidls while I'm there.

    4G routers

Haven't heard back from Cex yet and end of deal 5th September is approaching fast. Thinking I may bite the bullet and go to curries and buy a new one - at least it should work. Is mounting an ariel on a metal post a good idea? Is it earthed - will that interfere with reception strength?

    4G routers

The odd thing about this is that I can't suss which version it was. V1,2 and 3 all show obvious leds on the top (in adverts), this one was just an unadorned case with no indication of power, wifi, etnernet etc. I was also not thrilled that it was sold as 'good' condition but was highly scuffed...

    4G routers

Router turned up yesterday. It was packed well ehough but was quiye badly scuffed and scarred. There were no indicator leds on it, which didn't seem right. When plugged in my laptop did detect it but, with no leds, how can I tell what's what? So it's gone back. Frustrating 'cos the contract...

    Samsung silver battery

This may be old news, but I've only just come across it. The link is to an investment report but contains some interesting technical figures. It claims that a 600 mile range, 20 year battery life and 9 minute charge are what's being tilted at. To achieve this we would have to see 600Kw...

Well here's a turn up for the books

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4glzl7e157o More mealy mouthed safety words from the welsh assembly. The welsh traffic sign industry must have made a packet form all the extra signs.

    4G routers

OK, I've ordered the tp link MR600 from Cex. When it comes I'll get a Giffgaff card. Existing contract with +net runs out on 5th september, so hopefully I can get this up and running before then. Then I'll be able to tell them where to stuff their overpriced 'service'.

    4G routers

Unfortunately most of what you say about phones goes right over my head. Had a look at sipgate and that's even moreso. I have existing dect phones that I was hoping to use via an adaptor, using voipfone as they say they can port my existing number for £5/month. Looking at this router as it's...

    4G routers

Thanks for the info Guerney. I am not wedded to Offgridwifi, especially as they have not replied to my 'contact us' enquiry. It's just that seemed to be a plug and play kit that, hopefully, would be just that. Enabling a tech blind old git like me to save some money. But, from you've linked...

Carrera replacement after market rear motor

    Oldie needs help

If they are nylon then you need silicone grease as petroleum based greases will damage them.

Carrera replacement after market rear motor

Why do you need a new motor? Generally speaking they are pretty bullet proof with a fault more likely in the controlling electronics. Some more information and fault finding could save you a bunch of money. Must say I've never come across a bike with 160mm dropouts, most seem to be in the 140...
