    Return to the bent!

Ryan's out of stock of black Sapim strongs, so I've ordered from Bitex Hubs UK. Hope they come through.

    Return to the bent!

With the tensions now at 35:65, I can't get it any better, and as Ryan's back from holiday, I'm going to order spokes. Going to ordr all 208 as I figure 0.9mm won't make much difference.

    yesterday i had 1 ebike now i have 4!

Well good luck and let us know how you get on. It's a pity Jimmy at e bike batteries is no longer operational, but I'm sure Woosh will have a new battery for the Santana. It depends what the others turn out to be. Just another example of our disposable society. May your resurections go well:cool:

    Return to the bent!

Ok, I've changed the right side elbows to out and it's bought it to 35:65. That's the same as yours Anthony and that worked out did it? Thanks for the help everyone, you're helping to demystify the dark art of wheel building.:cool...

    Return to the bent!

I've redone the measurements and calculations and this is what it's come to: https://ebikes.ca/tools/spoke-calc.html?hub=cust_d130_s44_o-8_n36_l138_h3_p22.7&pair=false&rim=cust_dia559_e535_lo2_ro2_w26 So it looks like left spoke at 208mm and right at 206mm. The tension ratio still looks high...

Rear wheel making a rattling noise

Is there a vibration associated with it? Check the motor plug, it needs to be all the way in up to the marked line. I know, the noise sounds mechanical but it's amazing how a resistive connection on one motor phase can make a motor sound and feel like the bearings are falling apart.

    Return to the bent!

Using Grin's methodology and calculator, I've arrived at spoke lengths of 207 and 206mm. That's fine but, their graphic display reckons I'll get 72% tension one side and 28% the other to get the offset. The advice is to be as close to 50/50 as possible but nothing I alter (within measurements)...

    Cmacewheel GW20 P.A.S. Problem

Going to need a bit more detail Brian. Is the pas sensor the one with a seperate disc? If so is the disc within a couple of mm of the sensor head? Does it run parallel to the head? Does the disc turn with the shaft? As the magnets pass the sensor does the led flash? Do you have a throttle...

    Return to the bent!

Ooops! Shows how attempted humour can go wrong without the aid of facial and tonal expression. Got everything in place now to start measuring for spokes and the learning can continue.

Thanks Guerny, might consider those 'cos they obviously help you get up hills fast:rolleyes:

    Return to the bent!

Just spotted that, on the TBK spec, the motors' gear ratio is 10.5, whereas on the label it says 8.1. I'm assuminmg this means that the rotor will spin slower for a given rpm. As this motor is specced at 48v/328rpm but I'll be using it at 36v to get 250, will this be a problem given the slower...

    Return to the bent!

The rim has arrived. I've watched the Grin wheel building and hub measuring video's and will be measuring stuff tommorrow. I read the Sheldon Brown stuff too, but I couldn't retain it. I function better with visuals. The motor had this sticker on it: I've removed it and this was underneath...

    Return to the bent!

Plan is to use my Ezee rear rack battery which fits on a top hat din rail. So, easy enough. However the Velotechnic rack is only 130mm wide whilst the battery is 150mm. Could just mount it on top but this would stop me being able to hook panniers over the top bar. Was thinking of buying a...

    Return to the bent!

Thanks - not sure I understand the maths, however, I have bar end shifters and the rear one's indexed for 8 (deraileur is currently restricted to 7). Main aim is to increase the 'space' between ratios so I can feel the difference so it's probably going to be the11-32.

    Return to the bent!

While I'm waiting for the rim (thanks for the help chaps) I'm looking at the gearing. Currently the rear cluster is a 14-28 freewheel. I find the ratios a bit close, it's difficult to feel when it has changed so often end up going two. On a bent, it seems you have to spin more on hill...

    Return to the bent!

Thanks Neal, I searched bankrupt bike parts but missed that one. Just ordered it. Thought of using the existing rim but have a notion to sell the wheel/motor.

    Return to the bent!

jeez! Been searching for about 3 hours. Cannot find a 26" 36 H black double wall rim of 19-21mm width with no eyelets. Are the eyelets a deal breaker? I have, so far, only looked at rims under £40

    Return to the bent!

Confused already. Tyre is labelled 35-559 26 x 1.35. Existing rim is unmarked. So what double wall rim do I need?

    Return to the bent!

Kit's arrived, all present and correct. Now need to find a 36hole 26 inch rim. Anyone got any recommendations? I'll be asking for wheel building helplater, such as how the hell do I work out the offset and then different spoke lengths? Also looking for an 8 speed cassette, going to try for one...

    Return to the bent!

Order was scheduled for the 23rd, just been messaged to say it will be here today. 6 days from, I assume, Hong Kong via DHL. Well that's OK:D
