    Batteries Charging Routine

A question. The constant voltage charge at the end of a Lithium battery charge, starting at say 4.18V per cell, adds in my tests around 7% of the capacity. I have a generic Solar panel type adjustable charger, but although it goes into the constant voltage mode at the end of the charge it...

    Batteries Charging Routine

I accept Paypal. This is where I used to work in the early days, I only discovered the existance of the video a couple of months ago. I ran the Electronics lab, fixed the difficult stuff, checked components for suitability etc. Not many eBike using Lithium batteries in those days mind.

I assure you I could measure voltages for several years even before I spent 3 years in college doing electronics.

    Batteries Charging Routine

Take the example of a single lithium cell. There are numerous chargers out there that will keep applying charge current till the voltage across the cell reaches 4.2V, then charging stops. For sure when the battery is then allowed to rest a bit the battery voltage falls to say 4.15V. Most...

So the lost capacity, 16.66%, is in line with my discharge tests and is considerably more than some suggestions that the capacity loss is only a few percent.

If by that you mean that cooking a chicken at a lower temperature (charge current) for longer, then yes its likey the chicken stands a better chance of being fully cooked (fully charged). The problem I have with that analysis is that the longer you cook a chicken, in general, the smaller it...

The 24% was the amount of Ahr, not time. At the relavent voltages the amount of charge in was; 41V, 3.56Ahr 41.5V,3.81Ahr 41.8V,4.32Ahr > constant Volt charge begins. 42V, 4.64Ahr > charge stops.

    Batteries Charging Routine

When my battery, which had been charged to 42V, was discharged, it went from 42V to 41V almost instantly, but that says nothing about what the capacity would be when the charge is stopped at 41V.

    Batteries Charging Routine

I do understand that just stopping the charge at 41V does not complete the charge in the sense that the constant voltage part of the charge, where the current tails off to zero is missing. The balancing, if needed, is also missing. With the battery I was testing, 24% of the total charge in...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Have you, or anyone else, charged a battery, from low, to 41V, stopped the charge and then tested the capacity ?

    Batteries Charging Routine

I use a power meter and a bit of patience, when the voltage indicated on the battery goes to 41V, I stop the charge. Strange question really.

    Ebike battery fire

Not every time. Youneed to use a soft faced hammer, nylon or rubber, as less damage would be done during the dismanteling.

    Batteries Charging Routine

I dont see that knowing the apparent amount of charge lost when a battery is charged to 42V and then discharged to 41V is of much value, its not the same as charging to 41V and then discharging from there and thus measuring the batteries real actual capacity. Here is the discharge plots with a...

    Ebike battery fire

I would agree, there does seem to be a lot of that these days. Very common for people these days to just pop onto some Internet forum and ask volunteers to read datasheets and manuals for them.

    Trackers

If you can get a wire outside the tube, then a simple bit of wire is good enough for a GPS, see these comparisons of simple wires versus the common ceramic patch antennas; https://stuartsprojects.github.io/2020/09/10/GPS-antennas-effectiveness-and-weight.html

Dont see any of that. Charge current is flat dead on 2.0A till CC charge ends at 41.8V. Power rises slowly of course, but no jumps. When CC charge stops the current tails off to around 55mA over 15 minutes when charge LED goes green. Current then drops to circa 20mA over another 10 minutes.

You would hope not, especially on a 'quality' battery that should be pretty well balanced in the first place. At what exact voltage point would the BMS start the balance ?
