    Electric Brompton?

Thanks Jerry, I have a small campervan which I tow a boat with. The weight of a bike is not a problem, just that it must fold up small like a Brompton does. When I am not sailing, I take my Tonaro inside the van, but when sailing, I have so much other kit in there including an inflatable boat...

    Electric Brompton?

Thanks Benjy. It will have to be good at that price.

    Torque sensor v speed sensor

Pedelec magnet ring and torque sensors do much the same thing. However, the magnet ring can only sense that the pedals are turning and generally supplies a fixed amount of power by means of the power selector switch on the handlebars (generally with 3-5 power level settings) So, with a magnet...

    Electric Brompton?

I have been following Benjy's conversion of a Brompton. There were rumours of Brompton producing an elkectric version, but these have died down. Anyone heard any more? Mike

    Silly Cyclists

Now strangely enough, although London Traffic has a fearsome reputation amongst my friends, I find that in general, London drivers are far more skilled and courteous than in Swansea. You just try changing lanes here, you will be hooted and generally considered the spawn of Satan. However, in...

Hub or Derailleur, Which Is Best?

From an engineering point of view, a derailleur is a horror. It pulls a chain sideways off a cog and hopes that it will ride onto the next without trouble. The chain basically is only designed to flex in the direction of the cogs and not sideways. The early models were not good but they worked...

    Silly Cyclists

We don't have many cyclists in Swansea, so I was appalled when I saw how they ride in London. What's the great rush?

Injured knee- advice needed on best way to climb hills on Freego Hawk.

That is my case, I have a sort of moving dodginess, sometimes the right knee, sometimes the left or the right hip. Last night, the Tonaro brought me home from the pub up the fairly steep hill that I live on at a steady 5mph with no pedalling.

Hub or Derailleur, Which Is Best?

Two things, 1 With hub gears you can have the old standard heavier chains and sprockets. 2 I still don't understand these percentages. Take the Nexus 3 for instance with a quoted 200% range. What does this mean? Does it mean that if bottom gear is 33 inches, second will be 66 inches and...

Hub or Derailleur, Which Is Best?

A question for Flecc!! What is the range of these hub gears. At present I have a 42 chain ring driving an 11-32 cassette which gets me up the steepest hills. However, I could put an 11-36 cassettte on the wheel if I felt really lazy. With a hub gear you are stuck with the in built ratios...

    Happy ?

Well, I have just come in from a ride. Didn't go anywhere particular, spent some time trickling along a country lane that I have known since a boy (a LONG time ago). Saw things I have never noticed in all the times I have howled along it on motor cycles, sped along it in cars and campervans...

    Freewheel removal tool???

On the socket illustrated, there is what appears to be a half inch square socket drive. Half an inch is about 12.5 mm.

    Security of bikes...how nickable?

No lock is secure! Angle grinders etc will cut through them in no time flat. Even as we call for bike lanes etc, perhaps we should also call for secure parking?

The NOT Gears, How Many is Too Many? thread

Thank you Flecc, But I think to argue about Margaret Thatcher is pointless in the end. It was a long time ago, and your views would probably be coloured by where you lived in the UK at that time. I for one was glad to see the back of Trade Union bullying and intimidation, 'Beer and Sandwiches...

The NOT Gears, How Many is Too Many? thread

Well I am going to back out of this because I feel so angry with some of the comments, it is best not to say anything and get banned from a Forum that I love. Mike

The NOT Gears, How Many is Too Many? thread

Does anyone think we ought to ban politics from this site? I have just come back from a few days away and was amazed to see where the gear post had gone. Although everything is very amicable, strong emotions can be aroused, particularly where Margaret Thatcher and the union bosses are concerned...
