    Gears and Tyres

I think a lot of us had cheap and badly adjusted kit as children, hence the memories of poor gear changing. Basic Shimano gears - which most bikes on your shortlist have - shift fine but they do require occasional adjustment. Original equipment tyres on these bikes are not the best, but can be...

What do you think is best for me?

After reading more of the thread, I agree.

    Riese and Mueller Delite Touring?

Forum member Croxden has done thousands of trouble free miles on his Delite Touring. I've ridden his bike, and there's definitely something in the 'tuned for the road' full suspension. The Delite is the most stable bike at speed I've ever ridden, and the only one I've felt reasonably safe on...

    Best legal eapc hill climber

That's a very convenient - for you - reading of the legislation. Another is the bike isn't type approved for a full throttle, so if it has one it's an illegal modification. Sounds OK-ish, but presumably the DfT is saying 'you could be prosecuted but we've no intention of doing so'. I...

    Best legal eapc hill climber

A full throttle is either legal for use or it isn't - it matters not who fits it. Not the most serious offence in the criminal canon, but to avoid unwanted attention it might be best to turn the pedals while using it.

    Best legal eapc hill climber

Isn't a legal bike that goes up a hill without pedalling a non-sequitur?

    Need help selecting ebike

Probably, although if you ring Oxygen the guy who owns the company often answers the phone so you can get the gen straight from the top. Woosh don't have dealers, but they are helpful so might send a bike on approval. Another that's worth a look is Wisper. Their Torque bike has been getting...

    Need help selecting ebike

Andy, You are new here, but bear (ho-ho) in mind trex is a sales agent for woosh - see his (enforced) signature Nothing wrong with a Big Bear, but it's a basic Chinese bike which you may, or may not, be happy with. You mention carrying shopping, the Big Bear has a rack battery - more weight...

    eBike Day 2

Good stuff. From the pics it appears you don't carry any puncture repair kit. Up to you, of course, but I would never leave home without it. A puncture is the overwhelmingly most likely cause of a breakdown, and the one you need the appropriate equipment to sort. Most other mechanicals can...

Any thoughts about brompton nano conversion.

I had a Nano until a year or so ago - it was my first ebike. The conversion is neat - mine was done by Nano - and reliable during my moderate use. Battery connection via copper strips on the luggage block works a treat. It's not the most powerful, although the later ones may have more grunt...

'Police officer riding motorised bike hit a pedestrian - and then sued for HIS injuries'

The court case was an application by the employer to overturn a previous ruling he was at work and therefore the employer was liable. Both the copper and the pedestrian wanted the court to rule he was at work. The copper so he knows the money will be paid, and the (former) employee so he...

'Police officer riding motorised bike hit a pedestrian - and then sued for HIS injuries'

It appears their lordships were deciding if the hapless pedestrian was at work or not, rather than if he was responsible for the collision. That would be important to Pc Compo because the company may have money and public liability insurance, whereas the pedestrian probably has neither.

Can I book UK train tickets online with a cycle reservation?

Northern Rail claim to be cycling friendly, but the website includes this statement: "Please note: a 'bike' refers to an unpowered two-wheel cycle - it excludes tandems, tricycles, power-assisted cycles and trailers." https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/travel/cycling/54-bike-on-trains

Can I book UK train tickets online with a cycle reservation?

Each operator appears to have its own policy. And it can be more complicated than that. The Trans Pennine website for a recent journey I did was clear there were no bike reservations. My travelling companion went to the departing station and came back with two bike tickets. Travelling from...

    Scott 2017 E-bikes Availability

The Cube is better spec than the Scott, but so it should be as it's more money. Looks like the Scott has the 400wh battery, the Cube has 500wh which would swing it for me apart from the better gears, brakes, forks, a few kilos lighter, higher spec motor...

Motor: Crank Drive or Front Hub (because of Nexus preference)?

A problem, as Kwi says, is there are different types of Shimano hub gears. I have an Alfine 11 on my Rose/Bosch bike, so it's tempting to say I know about Shimano hub gears, but I don't because the others all perform a bit differently. The Alfine 11 changes best with the pedals turning under...

Motor: Crank Drive or Front Hub (because of Nexus preference)?

The Bosch system is instant, you can feel the assist as soon as you put pressure on the pedals. Both the Yamaha and Bosch systems operate nicely, although the Bosch feels a bit smoother overall.

    Trek

There won't be much to choose between Trek and Cube in terms of quality. Both are decent brands. There will be minor differences in style and spec, both being a matter of preference. The Trek - at least the 2017 one - has space for a bottle cage on the bottom of the seat tube. That's a...

    Bosch Classic Line Issues

Not that it helps you, but I have a generation one display on one of my Bosch bikes and prefer it to the Intuvia. Much neater, and it takes up less handlebar real estate leaving more space for lights, a Garmin and so on. Interesting that Bosch has effectively re-introduced it with the Purion.
