    too much torque

Looks like 26" wheels which will give lower gearing than 27.5 or 29er. The OP is probably spinning a fairly high cadence at 20mph. As flecc says, a bigger ring on the front would be a sensible mod.

    Bafang Max Drive

The Riese and Muller Charger Rohloff has sliding drop outs and enough clearance on the mudguard to enable them to be used. It also has an all but enclosed chain, so I doubt it would ever need adjustment anyway. The frame has a raised chain stay, so in theory a belt could be fitted without...

BH Emotion bike vs Volt pulse X

The Volt is OK, but £2K is a lot for a relatively old fashioned battery behind the seatpost Chinese hub bike. Designs from companies such as woosh and Kudos are more modern and cheaper. Or for £2K you can get a genuinely good quality crank drive bike from the likes of Cube, KTM or Haibike...

Probably coming from the direction of the Brexit thread.

Is it worth trying hybrid tyres.

I suspect any MTB tyre will be too similar to your Rapid Robs to give much advantage. Equally, any trekking or tour tyre may be too similar to your Big Bens. If you still want to try something, Marathon Plus Tours may be worth a go. A bit more tread than Big Ben, but not full on MTB...

Trek Powerfly ( only gone and ordered one )

Well, you did call him worse than shite on many occasions. Oops, sorry mate.

    Help?

I'm not aware of another decent quality eMTB available in a !6" frame for about £1,500. I expect the likes of Haibike and KTM may offer such a bike, but it will be more money. Converting your Giant would be a cheaper option - you could probably find someone to do it. But the kits lack the...

    Help?

One of the often forgotten benefits of more expensive ebikes is they usually come in a range of sizes. Cube offer frames as small as 14" in their WLS series, which has geometry aimed at women. Your budget should just about get the job done, although you may have to stretch it a bit for a 2017...

    Help?

Have you tried any ebikes? Very few will drag you along a trail without some effort, although on high assist level that effort won't be great. Probably better to manage your routes carefully so you know you will be able to keep pedalling all the way. Mountain bikers don't usually measure...

    Right, I'm going for it...

My sister-in-law tried to put a dongle on her bike. It wouldn't fit, if I recall the spokes were too close to the speed sensor. Badass do an adapting bracket, but even that wouldn't do the job. As soundwave says, the pedal crank method probably won't work. One of the dongles which fit inside...

    Disillusioned

What bike is it? Some have a two year warranty on the battery. In any case, it may be worth contacting the supplier. Cheap Chinese batteries are not known for longevity, but even if it's one of those you can reasonably expect to get a couple of years out of it.

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect S10 (2012)

Stuart, Another point to be aware of is the bike is what is called a Speed or S-Pedelec. The difference being the motor assists until 45km/h rather than 25km/h. The vehicle category is L1e, and the other clue is the number plate mount by the rear light. It is not possible to use it on the...

    which kit

Mounting the gear change mechanism is another - apparently now hypothetical - problem. Shimano hubs have at least two types of mechanism. My Alfine 11 has an armature that sits inside the chainstay. There's no guarantee that would clear the stay on a frame originally designed for derailers...

    which kit

A factory build wasn't quite the question though, was it? You know the bike far better than me, but the rear doesn't appear to be quick release. If so, that's good because there's a fighting chance the axles will be the same or similar diameter. Gearing will need to be tinkered with. The...

    which kit

You will need drop outs which will take the hub gear axle. Most derailer ones won't. Filing is a bodge and may, or may not, work. If the drop out needs fully remaking, it's a welding job. Chain tension is something else to consider. The existing drop outs certainly won't be sliding ones, so...

    Raleigh Captus

Recharging after 20 miles is fine. All ebike batteries work better and last a bit longer if used well-charged rather than nearly empty. But equally, the capacity is there to be used which is what you are doing. Probably best not to routinely flatten the battery, although the Bosch system has...

    Another broken ebike

Emphasis on the 'well made'. You will know better than I that a book could be written about the pitfalls of Chinese manufacture. Shadow shifts, third shifts, gullible British businessmen not getting the quality they paid for after the first consignment, etc, etc. Your two £1,099 bikes look to...

    Another broken ebike

Could be, but that doesn't explain why £1,000 Chinese ebikes are notorious for electrical faults. Often just niggly faults, but still faults which put the bike off the road.

    Right, I'm going for it...

My endearing sister-in-law has a Whyte Steps bike. I've had a brief go on it. There's some suggestion Steps is not quite as pokey as Bosch, but I doubt many would notice the difference. Whyte is a decent brand, so it really comes down to if you like the style, fit and price of the bike.
