flecc, just a thought but I'm not where the bikes are just now so I can't take a squint. How are the cranks held on? Or to be more precise, how do they come off?

I note what you say, Blew it, but hang on until I can take some better snaps before you put your money on the trailing edge deformation being impact damage. Right now, it looks like nothing more than pressure pure and simple to me ...

I have no recollection at all of any sign of the chain riding up the drive sprocket. I'm actually an ex-toolmaker and biker, so I tend to be pretty much attuned to odd noises and such from machinery of any kind. If it's impact damage, how come it's evenly distributed between all 41 teeth...

Quite, and that was a major factor in our decision to buy two of them. However, one immediate consequence of this chainwheel lark is that when folks ask me what the bike is like, no longer will I be singing its praises like I have been for the last 18 months ...

But mine is a 24V battery, hence the question. I didn't know they did 36V ones :) Actually I just thought to look under the charger, and sure enough there's a label - 29.3V.

Well, the chainwheels and motor sprockets have just arrived, and they are indeed 2mm thick. I won't be able to do anything about fitting them until nearer the weekend, but I have to say that IMO the new chainwheel is a singularly unimpressive item. Sure it's a clever bit of metal-bashing...

Why should it be outputting 42v? Is the output voltage simply measured across the + and - terminals of the charger with mains on and no battery? Or does the charger need to sense a battery to provide an output?

I'm reluctant to believe this myself, but while we're waiting for our new chainwheel and sprockets to arrive, I got back from Tesco this morning and put the battery on charge on account of it being nearly out of steam. It's been on charge now the best part of two hours and it's still flashing...

Jerry, I note what you say and have no argument with it as far as it goes, but ... You change your Bromton chains every 1500 miles and your sprockets are fine. My Agattu has done a total of 1600 miles from new, and both chain and chainwheel are stuffed. According to 50 Cycles, the motor...

No need to measure the chain wear, it's definitely shot. Whether that's the cause or the effect of the peculiar tooth wear is anybody's guess. I would have expected a worn chainwheel to have "hooked" teeth as in the middle chainring in amigafan's picture, but these are pretty evenly deformed...

Really? I need to see a pic to understand what you mean. Your slightest wish ... It didn't, because I haven't yet. No point putting a new chain on knackered sprockets.

Cheers, chaps. I was informed this morning by Matt at 50 Cycles that that amount of wear at 1600 miles is not grounds for a warranty claim. He also said that the motor sprocket is worn, so I'm the best part of £40 out of pocket, plus the cost of a new chain. At least he had the grace to not...

So ... following on from this thread, if you bought a new Kalkhoff Agattu, how long would you expect the chainwheel and the motor drive sprocket to last?

That's exactly what I was thinking. I've certainly never seen one like it before! I'll double-check the cranks again ASAP and come back. What's really bizarre is that the bike's totally clunkless with the power switched off, irrespective of how I pedal, but with power on the noise is there...

OK, I finally got chance to investigate further following the advice given to me on this thread As far as I can tell, there's nothing loose anywhere. What there is, though, is a surprising amount of wear on the chainwheel. Bear in mind that these snaps are taken with the bike upside down ...
