One of the two contenders to replace my 2012 Kalkhoff is the Batavus Harlem Ego which uses a Yamaha crank motor rated at 70Nm about which I know nothing. Is is reckoned to be good, or does it have "issues"?

Me neither :) But whatever, I agree with you that it's probably safe to assume that it's less than the 50Nm quoted for the Gazelle which is currently numero uno on the list of potential purchases.

That would be the plan, and your second question is exactly the dilemma I'm faced with. I do have all the necessary tools and the mechanical aptitude to do whatever work would be involved swopping bits 'twixt bikes, and TBH my own gut feeling is that I'd be better off stripping mine for spares...
