It's definitely a grinding noise. have linked a video of the noise taken earlier while riding. it's only noticeable in assist level 3 (starts at about 130w) and up and is very loud in top assist level 5 (as shown in video) , so linked to how much work the hub is doing. no issues with spokes...

I like it's simplicity and the retro look, it might well be all that you need. As you say, never worth the original price, but at the price you paid, it compares well against the cheap entry level Halfords stuff or the cheap chinese stuff on Ebay, plus , as you say, it doesn't scream NICK ME...

Yep, I got a quote for having the motor hub rebuilt with a strong ebike suitable rim (angled eyelets) and sapim strong spokes from a wheel builder who had experience with ebikes, might do this in the future. In the meantime have got it down to about 20-30 mins without having to take the wheel...

correct, remove the plastic spacer before fitting. be careful to not overtighten the rotor screws, the motor hub metal that the rotor is screwed into is aluminium
