    Alternative charger

Oh they must have changed...it's a phono on my Wisper Lishen from 2007. Theoretically if the battery has a BMS in it (which it should) you could probably get away with any charger which outputs the same voltage as your old one. Even some lead acid chargers. It may not show you when it's fully...

    Chain length and kicking myself

So two chains needed? Or buy two, use the 2nd to lengthen the first, & keep the rest to lengthen the next new chain? (Is nothing on these e-bikes standard? ) And don't kick yourself, you'll get mud all over your trousers and fall over.

Do you leave your battery on the bike when you lock it?

Actually my nick-name for it is the handbag! ;)

Torq with battery mod storms up hills

The parking bit, is the biggest issue for me. At home I'd have to leave it in the car park or on the street where the lighter finger residents of the area will get to it. And in town there's limited parking spaces available to leave it whilst at work. Whilst an e-bike can be parked almost...

    Wisper 905se 2009

Yes if it's anything like my 2007 905se, it's a simple matter of removing one connector with a small preset resistor in the end and your bike is completely derestricted (completely reversible just plug it back in ;) ) button or no button!

    Which bike?

All these bikes will give you assistance, just to different degrees. The question is, are you able/willing to make up the difference to get the bike up the hill! If you are able to push the bike up the short section then you'll get all the benefits without so much expense. But if you want...

Do you leave your battery on the bike when you lock it?

I've seen quite a few e-bikes locked up now, and most of the time the battery is left on the bike. For me, in London, that seems crazy! Leaving an item worth several hundred pounds unattended attached to a bike. However other people may have different ideas... So do you leave your battery...

    Which bike?

Rach, There are SOME bikes that will get up such hills without a good chunk of human assistance. But most "legal" bikes will require that you pedal, probably quite a lot! Perhaps the Kalkhoff Agattu may, but I have no experience of that myself. Could the moped do it? Can you walk it? (It...

    Comparing 36v 12Ah SLA with 24v 8Ah Li-on

Just doing a bit of analysis on the battery energy content: For the 24v 8AH Li-on (ROAAR! :D sorry 20 month old baby in the house) That amounts to 24*8= 192WH of energy. Your friend get 6.5 miles from that 192WH which is 29.5WH/mile (about right I get about 36 with no pedalling) Your...

Hopes for 20 mph assist limit dashed

I think if you can shout a warning, surely you can also slam on the brakes?

    My Torq has died

I'm not a Torq owner.... but didn't you say that a power wire to the motor had broken due to flexing upon steering. Do the hall sensor wires also run the same way? If so could one of those wires have suffered a similar fate (maybe intermittently)? Nick's procedure will help you tell...

Alas I only get to ride on "on street" cycle paths a.k.a. glass collection areas...:(

Torq with battery mod storms up hills

They do have other advantages (as pointed out elsewhere by numerous people including yourself Tony): * Park "anywhere". * No tax, insurance, registration needed. * You can nearly always pedal them when the battery runs out. * Bike parts are mostly cheap, mostly interchangeable...

And how many of our members are real men? :p :D

Done it for the first time....but...

Thorns !?!? Long time since I saw one of them on a London road :o On the other hand broken glass is a good substitute ;) (The Schwalbe Marathons seem like a good investment though if you are using the bike as a commuter)

Torq with battery mod storms up hills

Wai Wong that is exciting news. I believe that makes you the first e-bike manufacturer to offer LiFePO4 doesn't it? :D

Looking for new bike..Probably Wisper??... your views please

I think all the other points have been addressed but: They are basically two different names for the same thing these days. Li Po (Lithium Polymer) is a method of construction for a LiIo (Lithium Battery) of which there are many different types although I believe (flecc please correct me if...

Electric Bike wins Climate Change Innovation Competition

And I believe they are doing what any big corporate in todays climate would do, creating a ridiculously thin veneer of corporate responsibility to cover the massive ball of nastiness behind...:p However, that shouldn't detract from YOUR achievement Andrew. Well done! :) :D

Looking for new bike..Probably Wisper??... your views please

Gordon, Re: The controls, one thing to note is that "throttle only" control may be disappearing on the 2009 model (I'm not sure). Worth checking out if that is important to you. Re: Motor power. Motor power is most often limited by how much energy you put in to it i.e. by the battery...

Powabyke x-6 Vs X-24 Vs Powacycle Salisbury Vs Something Else?

To go back to your first post. I STRONGLY suggest that if you are 6ft 8 that you try any bike out first. Most e-bikes are "one size fits all" frames, however I suspect that even with a longer seat post they might not fit you properly (check Sheldon Brown's seat pages for more info on how to get...
