    What counts as a charge?

So just to clarify (I like things in really simple language!), if you do 4 quarter charges that adds up to a full charge? I suppose my next question is, do we know in real life what that 500 charge figure typically turns out to mean? (I'm thinking here of a use scenario where the bike is...

    What counts as a charge?

Folks, When you look at the descriptions of battery life the number of charges per lifetime e.g. 500 charges is quoted. But what counts as a charge? Is it full cycle from flat to full? Or does every top up charge count i.e. every charge after a short journey? Cheers Steve

    Torque

Yes, there is. You haven't enough mathS for the UK! :p ;)

    Torque arms...supplier found.

Folks, As part of my research into a bike I came across a supplier for really nice looking "universal" torque arms in the US. AmpedBikes.com - High Quality E-bike Conversion Kits They quoted me US$30 for the arm and US$22.80 for delivery to the UK. Just in case anyone is looking for...

    905se bottom bracket

Bit of an old post but I thought I'd reply in case it was any use. On the crank side I had exactly the same issue with a bike about 16 years ago. The crank kept on loosening falling off. I eventually got it to stick by basically hammering it on (not suggested), but I have read since that...

    Battery enclosure

No experience, but I remember my brother building a box out of polycarbonate (or similar) back in the 80's. Used the same sort of glue that they use on fish tanks (like a sort of silicon sealant type affair). Strong and waterproof. If you can get the glue it should be pretty easy. Cheers Steve

    Cyclone Bikes in the UK

Sorry couldn't find the linked document. In contrast to the above I quite like the current e-bike situation of getting one part from one place and one part from another. You see, in contrast to the motor world, bike parts are largely standardised. You CAN get different parts from...

    Batteries and the cold

Yes a new battery technology is needed for cold conditions.... Speaking of which did anyone see the Gadget show a couple of weeks ago? They featured an electric screwdriver powered by capacitors! Didn't last long per charge, but it recharged in 45 secs! So the technology is getting there...

    Batteries and the cold

However, if the battery were brought to a warmer temperature we should be able to liberate some of the "missing" energery shouldn't we? (As a child when the batteries in my toys ran out I used to put them on the radiator to get a little bit of extra life, until they cooled down again). The...

    New High End Electric Bike

That is one of the ugliest bikes I've ever seen! (and it would last precisely 20.3 seconds before it was nicked in London). In fact I think the only reason the OP hasn't been drummed off the site yet for his blatently commercial postings is that we haven't stopped laughing at that bike yet!

How much of a hammering can these bikes take?

That's good to know! That's even better! I think with my annual mileage I should be nicely out of the early death zone and into the main bathtub well within the guarantee period. Would be very helpful I think, to demonstrate the real life reliability of the machines. Cheers Steve

How much of a hammering can these bikes take?

Folks, I thought I'd finished asking questions, but I have yet more! This one's a simple one. How long do e-bikes last? Why do I ask? Well I'm planning on using mine to commute to work, whilst at present this is 4 miles each way it's due to rise to 6 miles each way (12 miles). At...

    Getting a wheel built...

Excellent! That's my LBS (I was going to phone them next)! Met a Giant Twist rider outside too. (only my 2nd e-bike spotting). Cheers Steve

    Importing Ping batteries...

Hmm so short term pain versus long term gain.... (I work in the City we're not interested in the long term :D ;) )

    Importing Ping batteries...

    So that'd be 15% VAT + 4.7% Import = 19.7%? Hmmm 36V10AH ping is approx £220 + 19.7% = £263 hmmmm

    Importing Ping batteries...

One more question folks... When you import a Ping battery from China what sort of import duty gets applied? Cheers Steve

    Getting a wheel built...

Hi, In considering all the different options for sorting out an e-bike, I may need to get a motor built into a wheel. Not having done this before I have no idea how much this would cost. So can anyone give me an indication of how much it costs say to get a motor hub built into a 700c...

    Alien 20" +Speed D7 What's it like as a "moped"?

I can see that on the Pansonic system. Just couldn't see the freewheel on the Cyclone system. Still think that independent power systems and gearing is a better answer, such as you mentioned in a previous thread. The hub gear is IMO the neatest looking answer to this! Anyway we're in the...

    Alien 20" +Speed D7 What's it like as a "moped"?

Looking at the pictures I can't see how this works. All the Cyclone style systems I've seen drive the bike using the normal chain. So the pedals must always turn. So yes you may not be pressing down on the pedals but the motor must still turn your legs! Cheers Steve

    Alien 20" +Speed D7 What's it like as a "moped"?

Thanks Flecc for correcting that, although I would say that from the design it can easily be seen that, if the bike is being driven by the motor it follows that the user MUST be turning the pedals at the same time (if not inputing much power). This is different to a hub motor design where the...
