    Bottom bracket creaking

There are two angles for square holed cranks, but according to what I've read if you get the wrong one (unlikely as the main one is very dominant) all that'll happen is that the crank won't go on quite as far but it shouldn't be a problem. Avoid old French cranks as they sometimes have odd...

    Bottom bracket creaking

Loose?!? Wow! That doesn't describe that crank! (just passed the bike and had a wobble ;) ;) ) I didn't try wobbling the chain side to check that or the BB, but if they are similar I'd say they'll need replacement. However given the wobbliness of the left crank I can't see how much force...

    Lightest electric bike available?

No but it'd make a great You've Been Framed video (much better than people falling over or being hit in the crotch!) :D

    Bottom bracket creaking

Maybe.... if the crank is knackered and you are going to replace it... you might either want to: a) Replace the BB at the same time. b) Overhaul the BB at the same time. You might as well go for this option first as we've established now that you don't need any special tools. (Mallet +...

    Bottom bracket creaking

Yes sounds more like the crank than the BB (used to have these noises on a crank of mine). Tighten ASAP before you need to get a new crank! But also check the BB for play.

    Pedelec sensor - missing magnets

Thanks Bob & Mussels, it was indeed a slight disturbance to the alignment of the sensor and disc (probably happened during the serious man handling required to get it in and out of the bike shed!). Cheers Steve

    Pedelec sensor - missing magnets

Thanks Mussels... I did notice that the sensor was very slightly bent, so I've bent it back but haven't had chance to test it yet. BTW are we sure the pedelec is magnet based? The disc has holes in it which suggests an optical system? (A source for replacement magnets would appear to be...

    Pedelec sensor - missing magnets

Irratic pedelec on Wisper 905se This morning on the way in to work my pedelec started acting up in a similar way to what's described here (lumpy, irratic, pulsating power). Did anyone ever manage to get a solution? Cheers Steve

    German Wisper Headset Spanner Size

Thanks for the links Bob! Indeed I've just found I do have the requisite tools for the BB. 1 ancient Raleigh "all purpose" tool that loosened the lock ring. (I suspect a screwdriver and a gentle hammer will suffice) 1 adjustable spanner that tightened the cup. 30 seconds. Job done...

    German Wisper Headset Spanner Size

Actually yes, looking at the pictures on your original post I can see that the BB is very wierd. It appears to have 2 lockrings?!?! So the right hand side with that splined cup is also adjustable? Mine is a little wobbly so I need to do something, sooner rather than later. Of course what we...

    Look What's Coming In 2009

Incredible! I'd never thought of it before but, yes the Chopper would make an excellent candidate for an electric! Nice big space to put the battery (under the seat), almost recumbent seating position. It'd need something like an SRAM Sparc for a power source (to get the gears), but I bet if you...

    German Wisper Headset Spanner Size

Folks, I'm sure this has been posted in a thread somewhere, but for the life of me I can't find it! Does anyone know what size headset spanner I need to tighten the headset on my new (to me!) Wisper 905se (it's a German Ebay model from Nov 07)??? (and whilst I'm at it what tools do I...

Thanks for that. Yes peanuts in comparison to cars (& in money terms the tube too).

    What counts as a charge?

Oh well at least that's put the question to bed! Thanks for that flecc. BTW what sort of figure do you usually use for Wh per mile? Cheers Steve

    What counts as a charge?

Ah... I didn't realise there was a thermal stress component as well! I suppose there's probably an ideal compromise temperature to charge and store at, but it's likely to be too difficult to determine. Interestingly I found on Wikipedia (not necessarily the best source I know!): "Li-ion...

    What counts as a charge?

RE: C) & D) for NiMH storing indoors would be the correct thing to do. But for LiIon batteries, these degrade over time as a function of temperature and stored charge. Storing at low temperature and partially charged reduces the inherent degredation of the cell e.g. at 0degrees C and 40%...

    What counts as a charge?

A battery regime for commuters... So, putting together stuff from various threads old and current. If we were to devise a battery charging regime for commuters it might go along the lines of: A) Get a bigger battery than you "need" to get the range (preferably much bigger). At least add...
