    E-bikes using the Pansonic unit

Actually, while the Tongxin controllers are potted with resin, I'm not aware of any others which are. Most can be opened up via a few screws and those who care to do so can upgrade mosfets and tweak away. Not really what the vast majority of people on here would want to do, and beyond my...

    E-bike expansion in Europe

...and Cambridge too. I was there yesterday and within a minute of coming out of the station i saw one - an old model Powabyke being ridden by an elderly lady. Saw a second five minutes later, parked outside a pub. It was an izip with the Currie motor mounted by the back wheel. First time...

That's a good one! If only they'd given it a few more spokes to twang they could have made it even more appealing by providing different thicknesses of correctly shaped card to allow the user to moderate the sound to their choice!

    My First Electric Bike

Nowadays, with workplaces and public transport being smoke free, it would be hard to find the time to combine 60 a day with a full time job! Probably for the best, I suppose!

    Ezee Parts Wanted

Who knows, John - maybe Phil thinks you might be tempted by one of those very nice e-Motion bkes, which have now glided into top spot on the AtoB rankings!

Despite those flaws, they have managed to run an effective PR campaign with journalists in several publications appearing to pretty much swallow their press releases. It's a shame that an inferior product has been more effectively marketed than the many far better ones around. While I...

    Non V-brake levers with switches

Not to my knowledge. At one point I was toying with the idea of making some as I was going to electrify a drop handlebar bike. My solution was going to be to get s pair of Tektro top levers, enlarge the little hole that is in the right place, and fit a small switch. I got as far as buying a...

Advice on setting up Tongxin / Ping

Yes. Obviously it is not for the faint-hearted or forgetful, but has never caused me any problems. It works well in combination with the brake cut-outs. I also fit an extra switch on the handlebars to avoid any accidental knocks setting the bike off.

    Ezee Throttle Plug Connector?

A bit drastic, John! :) If I were you, unless you plan to remove the throttle from time to time I really would just cut the connectors off and join the cables. Would work just as well and would be easier than fitting a connector - but obviously it's your preference!

    E-bike expansion in Europe

That figures - when I was in Switzerland a couple of years ago, I saw quite a few e-bikes! Mostly they were Flyers. I think Berne in particular had a good few - probably saw half a dozen in an afternoon. None in Brittany last year or the Loire this summer.

Advice on setting up Tongxin / Ping

Good luck - sounds like its going well. A hub motor is never going to match the sophisticated controls of the Panasonic system, but a Tongxin is the next best thing, and doesn't try to change the way you ride the bike. Holding the thumb throttle open is not much fun, especially if you have...

    Ezee Throttle Plug Connector?

Could be tough to match - you might find it easier to cut the connectors off and just join the wires.

    E-bike expansion in Europe

Just re-read my post - I wasn't meaning to dispute what you said, just add another data point but apologise if it comes over like that! Which area of France are you in?

    Aesthetics?

That's right - the main problem is too many wires. Charge meters are of marginal value, and the brake cut-outs could be joined at the front, saving another wire on the crossbar. The other problem is too many cable ties! It didn't need that many.

motor or controller fault - what do you think?

Fixed! It turned out to be neither motor nor controller, but one of the motor wires had become loose in its connector - so Flecc, as ever, you were pretty much right in your post above. An easy fix, but not so easy to locate!

    E-bike expansion in Europe

Last week in the Loire in France we didn't see a single one (outside the shop we hired ours from), but in the Netherlands last month we were rarely out of sight of one!

    E-bike hire in France

On our recent trip to France my wife's Tongxin-powered bike broke down, as I described in another post. This threatened to spoil our holiday, but luckily the tourist office in Angers was able to direct us to a company called Vert Event, who have electric bikes for hire. The shop was...

    Sensorless Controller

I got a couple just last week from keywin Ge, who trades as eCrazyman. Contact him on ecrazyman@gmail.com I had also bought one from Brett in the past but heard from him recently that he had had problems with his Chinese operations so was not able to supply for the meantime. It wouldn't...
