Using electrically-assisted bikes: lazy cheaters or healthy travellers?

and for all this, a man in streetwear (incorporating SPDs) on a road bike is still not probable cause. Imho. Couple on a Pinarello and a Colnago only yesterday rode up to bike stands and one held the other's bike rather than lock 'em up because let's face it there's nowhere to put a chain ! Not...

    CST - it's all working

Well, all packed up and off to rural pastures for this now. I boxed up the complete maintenance, spares & repair kit for it as I don't have any bike stuff at all at the other end. 4 boxes of tools and bits - about as much as the bike itself - and that's foregoing a stand as I need that for my...

Swapping male / female terminals on battery and charger

Charger arrived today and white van man 3 hours late so managed to rewire it and box up to go off with the rest after testing it worked. So back to sq. 1 where I started, but back in business at least which is a relief ! :)

Swapping male / female terminals on battery and charger

Uurgh here we go again .... Bike ready to be collected and send on together with all its spares and stuff later today as I've no car or other way of transporting it. Bilabonic kindly got me a spare charger as I wanted one to take with me without risking my only one but it's still en route to me...

    Bank holiday weekend rides

The paths look very innocuous from the photos - appearances clearly deceiving ! We need the air temps to rise a few more degrees so the headwinds don't impact so much. Nearly June and still reaching for windproofs ! Got away with a single layer short sleeved top right up till about 5pm when the...

    Bank holiday weekend rides

Absolutely glorious day. If only it could be like this in UK in Summer more often. Still had to take a jacket for downhilling home as the wind chill is still significant (for me anyway) but ... brilliant basically with the usual cloud cover gone! Put the Trek through its paces a bit today -...

    Bank holiday weekend rides

^^ Good effort :). The length of your rides gets longer and longer, Jonah ... it almost looks like you're in training for something  Obstructions mid-climb are a right pain - but you'd start up again easily enough on that bike if you did have to stop ! It's 4 x 4s carreering round the...

    Looking for more torque

Does that mean about 8% ? That should be within most bikes and riders' capabilities ? Any Bosch or Impulse crank drive bike should really fly up there even more so with a little bit of wellie and a higher gear. It's interesting that the Ibex is getting reports of being good at assisting but...

    Phase bullet insulation fused

^^ That's the proper way ... I was too tight to buy one for the sake of 12 'insertions'. The "genuine" connectors aren't especially cheap in small quantities it has to be said, but it's so fundamental to the bike working probably money well spent to be honest.

    Phase bullet insulation fused

Yep I hated those things - looked like a recipe for problems. Solder together / onto PCB.. or if you want to be able to take out the controller without having to cut off your cable ties and remove a load of cable with it use something better. I fitted Anderson Powerpole connectors instead...

Using electrically-assisted bikes: lazy cheaters or healthy travellers?

The rather sterile selection of emoticons and prohibition on : - posting anyone else's - more than 4 images per post does limit options somewhat... and even I get bored of reading my own endless prose (and others') sometimes ! You missed an opportunity there btw 50Hertz. Could have done an...

    Bank holiday weekend rides

There's a rumour that the sun might actually make a showing on a couple of days .... Everyone cleaned their chains and pumped up their tyres for a ride or two ?

Using electrically-assisted bikes: lazy cheaters or healthy travellers?

.... .... ........ ..... ... %^&$£ ... :) Nah they were probably too busy trying to dream up crimes to pin on old ladies ... or regular guys riding their bikes in streetwear lol. Ho very er sporting of you :). Looked like a perfectly normal guy from the photo. In terms of "detection" logic...

Using electrically-assisted bikes: lazy cheaters or healthy travellers?

Perhaps not in the SE, flecc but I think you'll find that it's perceived as an inherently unusual "condition" in certain parts of the country still. I am sure those of advancing years know exactly what I'm driving at by drawing that analogy to a copper's reasoning for stopping someone. But let's...

    CST - it's all working

Could do with a bit of that Bob :) ! Nah, to be fair lots of the build was fun in its own way but getting thwarted repeatedly in a bid to complete something working to unrealistic time targets in an unfamiliar area, not giving myself a fair crack at learning in a relaxed way and having a stack...

    Could this be an option?

I like it too. The case is a nice touch as well. But he's a "learner not a lecturer" so you may struggle with getting taught lol.
