Guess it's the different mindset - you're not going to beat any speed records on an eBike (even a 500W job) so the relative discomfort and need for higher tyre pressure in skinny tyres goes against the general tide of a comfortable ride at lower max speeds than a racing bike where you suffer in...

I run 2.1 26" Marathon Plus MTB tyres on that 1.5 rim from BMS. Tight, but no problem fitting it. You can comfortably go anything up to that or maybe even a little higher if you wanted to. So basically choose the tyre you want and it should be fine.

On your battery meter issue, would a standalone Cycle Analyst work with this setup to give you a reasonable battery meter ? Since the remote shunt is simply connected between battery and controller presumably it's pretty versatile ? I guess you might not want the bulk of the display tho'.

It's true and I do have to do that on Agattu on steep ascents ... it's far comfier than attack position and just as effective ! Those look like some of the ones I've contended with Artstu - have to confess I've got tired of doing it on Agattu and can't be bothered to take them on any more -...

^^ divide it by 5-8 for what you can use with max power (which "most people" need) in proper hilly areas depending on motor efficiency. A sensible claimed range is 180km - 250km for a worthwhile range on a bike of 30+ miles for hilly areas especially with coastal gales to contend with in...

Lower power setting on hills = likely more effort. Lower gears = likely less speed. In the end, battery performance in hilly areas was main deciding factor for Kalkhoff Agattu. Sahel uses the same. The 540Wh that comes as standard will do you easily for 36-42 miles in hilly terrain on full...
