    Defeated by a hill

Interesting ... with Impulse / Alfine 11 you definitely don't want to spin exceptionally fast to climb steep hills easier. It's much more effective with slower spin and steady pedal force which draws out the power. Sharper hills really hammer battery and even more so the faster you climb ...

    Defeated by a hill

It doesn't look from the stats as if it should be a deal-breaker .. is the length of the hill longer than those you usually take on ? I used to struggle on long hills (albeit more in the 17-20% range) with the Kalkhoff but not since the software upgrade and moving over to sport configuration...

    Advice needed

^^ Good choice. Hope you enjoy :). The only reservation I have with Nuvinci is the gearing range. It's about 350% vs the Alfine 11's 409%. If you use highest / lowest gears a lot (and I personally use the highest gears on my Alfine 11 a great deal as well as the 1st / 2nd on very steep hills)...

Is it road-legal to restrict a 500W motor?

I don't think Kudos use the same 270rpm CST motors as the 500W-rated ones supplied by BMS Battery. Perhaps they can clarify. You need to run the BMS ones with +/- 30A controllers and big batteries / high discharge ones to get the 'private land performance' (!) Out of interest, wonder what...

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

I don't have scales down here trex - but looking back when I weighed it after fitting soft-start switch, brake cutoff switch, pretty heavy PD-647 DX pedals, dual throttle, rack, MTB tyres, protek max tubes and a 1.1kg bag (bit heavier than my box & fixings) it was 25.4kg with the triple front...

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

Crank drives you can but retail here don't climb hills anywhere near as fast or effortlessly as a powerful hub motor. Whatever the torque or whatever figures say, they just don't. The pulse, breathing rate and volume of sweat exuded at the top of a long very steep climb at a decent speed are the...

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

If you want fast hill climbing, consider one of these : Bafang CST 36V 500W REAR Driving E-Bike Conversion Kit. - BMSBATTERY They're very torquey up hills and are geared so you don't have the drag / regen braking hammering your average on the downhills. On full power they do 22mph on the flat...

    Rocky Mountain Element Conversion

Glad to hear it. My neck's still not right from getting intimately acquainted with that brick wall earlier in the year and the front 2 teeth still a bit loose .. takes a while sometimes I guess !

    Ride on Xipi 1500 watt

Over 700 now. Top speed clocked so far crept up a bit yesterday to a gravity-assisted 44.9mph carrying all the usual load bungeed on the back ... pretty sure if I swapped the knobbly MTB tyres out and stayed off the brakes it would crack 50. Not in any particular hurry to try tho' - I reckon...

    Ride on Xipi 1500 watt

^^ It'll climb really well. I reckon he wasn't actually going as fast as the vid made it look but hope that bike had decent suspension taking those speed humps like that. Don't go for the riding on the wrong side of the road thing or cutting across the pavement personally. But then I'm always...

Must be power input. Probably achieves more than above in reality. Hard to say as I always pedal by choice.

New Bosch 2014 kit officially announced!..

Yup. Battery too small. If 550W is the guesstimate max imho that's not enough to tempt at Bosch prices. After watching my cycle analyst carefully have come to the conclusion that 800W+ peak or thereabouts for significant long steep hills seems an absolute minimum target output to be of interest.
