    Kalkhoff Pro Connect Impulse 9 / 10 (9-G/10-G)

My understanding is the longer life of LiPO4 is a scientifically proven fact. Happily for those of us with ludicrously expensive original equipment batteries, there are a handful of cheaper pattern alternatives...

What bike is best for learning the Knowledge of London (black cab) on?

Battery, weight of frame, and motor have nothing to do with it in the sense they are all about the same on a legal ebike, so they cancel each other out. The £300 ebike in your ebay link will have about the same amount of power as your new bike, the Freego you mention, and yes, even my Rose. So...

What bike is best for learning the Knowledge of London (black cab) on?

Lee, The previous couple of posts by our new m-e-m-b-e-r are confusing at best. You need to try a couple of ebikes, all the legal ones are much of a muchness when it comes to grunt and the amount of effort required by a rider. Once you've tried a couple, you will know if an ebike is likely to...

News: Belgian politician puts speed pedelec to the test

From the linked story, the guy found his first commute 'not easy' due to a depleted battery. Stromers come with big batteries, but 60-odd miles at speed will use a lot of juice - as he has found. One might also ask why a Green Party politician is commuting so far, irrespective of the means of...

    Hydraulic Brakes

Fair point about bigger rotors, but most upgraders only want to change the calliper from mechanical to hydraulic.

    Hydraulic Brakes

Mounts for disc brakes are universal, so any hydraulic calliper will bolt on. Unless the Wisper has a very odd fork/calliper combination, but that is unlikely.

Retirement, the beach and my dogs!

Not many full-sus fat ebikes around. Looks good quality, but any suspension on a fat bike seems pointless to me.

Retirement, the beach and my dogs!

A fat ebike is what you need. As well as the KTM, there is a Haibike/Bosch fat ebike for similar money. Or for less money, this Cyclezee: http://cyclezee.com/ezee-e-rex.html

    more charging points required !!

Part of the problem with public charging points is the length of time it takes to charge an ebike battery. In car chargers tend to take even longer because they cannot provide the rate of charge you get from the mains transformer in the house. If you hard wired a 12v charger to the car's...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect Impulse 9 / 10 (9-G/10-G)

Only time will tell, but no noticeable decline in nearly four years suggests my batteries will last a while yet, unless their capacity falls off a cliff next week, which it could. Reminds me of a scientist who was showing the then new LCD displays to the media. "How long will it last?" he was...

    Nuts always getting loose

Quite, given to me by a former shipyard apprentice - some of the fasteners he dealt with were bigger than Cwah's wheel, let alone the axle.

    Cube Town Hybrid ebike

Gear changes on a Bosch bike can be a bit clonky in turbo, which the OP says he's been using quite a bit. As Tomtomato says , soft pedalling the change is a good idea on any bike, motored or not.

Panasonic hub motor capability, as fitted to KTM e-bikes

Battery capacity, rather than motor power, is almost an obsession with me. Almost any ebike has enough grunt for my purposes, but battery capacity is always in the back of my mind. Like you, 20 miles planned can turn into a much longer ride. I've always thought most legal ebikes use about the...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect Impulse 9 / 10 (9-G/10-G)

Seems to me Bosch batteries do not wear out as quickly as some Chinese ones. No noticeable loss in capacity on my three, which are now approaching four years old. The management system on the motor/battery/charger may also assist longevity. Bosch batteries are about twice the price, so they...

    Nuts always getting loose

'If one won't do, use two' is a useful maxim. It can be applied to batteries, jackets, gloves, hats and no doubt lots of other things. I first heard the phrase in relation to the railways, where it's routine to deploy a second locomotive to pull a heavy train up a gradient. There is a bridge...

Just got my bike - really excited!

Looks like there is a holder unique to the Smart ebike. I see it's about £60, and some of the other accessory prices make Brompton look cheap. Nice money if you can get it.
