Are e-bikes with an off-road switch legal to ride on UK roads under 15.5mph?

Were you the subject of a vanishingly unlikely random roadside stop which lead to an even more vanishingly unlikely engineer's report about the bike, you could be, at worst, fined. A crash with a motor vehicle carries a slightly bigger risk of the above investigations happening, but as you...

    192mph........hero!

Opinion rather than logic, but the faster you go, the more you are pushing the odds. Fine on an empty race track, but not on a public road. It's a matter of degree, in ebike terms I think it's OK to ride a dongled ebike at around 17/18mph where I judge it safe to do so. That's just as illegal...

    192mph........hero!

The problem - as I'm sure you grasp - is that if something goes wrong at those speeds you are no more than a passenger. That's also true at a lower speed, but the increased speed increases your chances of injuring or killing someone else. It matters not if you kill yourself, but the relatives...

    Kettwiesel Trike Conversion

A single torque arm is fine. The motors you are considering are nicely pokey, but are not that powerful. There is always risk of a motor spinning out, but one torque arm is more than enough to cover it.

    New Lithium -ion bike battery.

Not usually required with modern batteries, but there's no harm in, er, 'cycling' the battery now and again. What you absolutely don't want to do is run it dead flat. The battery management system on your bike should stop you doing that - it will cut the motor before you can do any damage.

Warranty is good only in shop where you buy the bike

Better, but I prefer ready made to kits. Have you got one with over priced electrics? It's more what I'm used to.

    Kettwiesel Trike Conversion

Blimey John, if your post is anything to go by that novel of yours will be longer than War and Peace. To be serious, it should be possible to electrify your trike - there are a few on here who have done it. Inevitably, there will be some minor engineering to be done along the way, so you won't...

Nice, but those look derestricted to me so I couldn't possibly risk it.

I'm gonna have to get one of those red arrows. Do you sell them?

    Eccentric bottom bracket housing

I didn't realise the OP's tandem was already electrified. Pointless trying to engineer a crank kit when he's got a well-regarded hub kit fitted.

Bosch Nyon Custom Riding modes - Worth paying for?

There are Nyon bikes, but what you are seeing is importers/dealers selecting bikes which they think will sell. Nyon has a dreadful reputation, particularly in the UK, which is also a notoriously price sensitive market. So it makes commercial sense to push Intuvia bikes.

Interesting pic - for an ebike anorak such as myself. Looks nicely engineered. The vertical dropouts should make wheel removal easy, and the horizontal slots should take care of belt tension, which does need to be kept spot on.

The weight might also explain why it won't pull the skin of a pudding made from the staple diet of China.

    Woosh Krieger Review

Woosh don't have a dealer network. But they are famously helpful, so give 'em a ring to see if they can sort something. I believe they have been known to send bikes on approval.

I said I tried the 200w version, yet you are straight in with abuse. Your attitude on here is very poor. Try to use some manners. I'm not certain your bike has the BionX system, but if it does and you can get a BionX battery that works for £300, great. But you should be aware that several...

    Eccentric bottom bracket housing

A chain tensioner on the rear drop out might do it. That would tension the secondary chain - a lot of Rohloff bikes tension the chain that way, so there's no need for an eccentric BB. In your case the secondary eccentric BB could be left in place and could be used to tension the primary chain...

    Eccentric bottom bracket housing

I wonder if you could dump the front eccentric bottom bracket on the Thorn. Probably not, because when you adjust the rear eccentric BB to tension the secondary chain to the Rohloff hub, you probably need to adjust the front one to maintain the correct tension on the primary chain. But the...

E-mtb in it's natural hill climbing enviroment

I guessed - putting all other considerations aside - you could have rattled up there a bit quicker had you wanted to. Trail wear is a thought, as is considering the feelings of the other riders. I would have been thinking along the same lines. But in any case, going at it hammer and tongs...

    confusing claims

Rider fitness comes into it. I'm a bit fitter now than when I started ebiking and can get just over 50 miles from my Rose/Bosch, which equates to 8w/h per mile. That's mostly on eco with little wind and not much climbing. The question is usually asked by someone new to ebiking who will...
