Are e-bikes with an off-road switch legal to ride on UK roads under 15.5mph?

A 1,000w hub bike with a modern controller might not be the horrid, jerky contraption I fear it might be. As a general point, I think there is a temptation for those new to ebikes to go for as much power as possible. But the high power experience often palls after a short time. Long term...

Tororider Mountain Bikes - New crank drive

Another interesting link from shemozzle999. I see the bikes have a Fendt motor. All I previously knew about Fendt is they make what are widely regarded as the best agricultural tractors (a lot of) money can buy. http://www.fendt.co.uk/

Are e-bikes with an off-road switch legal to ride on UK roads under 15.5mph?

Any wheel weighing that much and with such short spokes will not be a very pure cycling experience, but if the OP likes it, fine. An 'off-road' button does nothing to make a 1,000w bike legal. If the OP wants legal, it has to be 250w/15.5mph, with no option to increase the speed.

    Roadie new to Pedelecs

You seem to like longer rides, so having two batteries may be of use to you. The Nyon system sounds great, but the functionality - at least in the UK - is poor. Think about that before spending lots of money on it. There will be a market for your existing head unit as they appear to be...

HELP - Can not tighten RHS crank arm - Kalkhoff Endeavor ???

Grease on the taper will encourage the crank arm to move fractionally in use. This 'worrying' movement can increase over time, rounding the square or the crank end. Clean and dry is the way to go.

It is the sort of job that benefits from a trial run. Not that I could be bothered, so well done. The axle nuts need to be fairly tight to avoid them coming undone. Worth checking those after you've done a few journeys.

"Strange" German valves fitted to Kalkhoff bikes.

Mike, I reckon the Impulse 2 motor, ordinary hub gears and 17ah battery on the Tasman should do you well. Which model are you having?

    250w vs 500w

The 250w BPM motor has plenty of poke and should do a reasonable job for you derestricted. It's not safe to put anything much more powerful in the front, unless you engineer it well, and even then you can not be sure of the strength of the drop outs.

"Strange" German valves fitted to Kalkhoff bikes.

I suspect that's why pressure readings are difficult. The valve is only open when the pump is forcing air in. Unlike Schrader or Presta where the valve is open when the pump - or a gauge - is attached.

    250w vs 500w

Wind resistance means each extra mph is harder to get the faster you are going. That applies to any bike, powered or not. Don't take too much notice of watt ratings, all motors peak much higher and the markings on some motors may be 'marks of convenience' to make them appear legal. Which...

"Strange" German valves fitted to Kalkhoff bikes.

The pressure doesn't register properly on some pumps when used on Woods valves. Feeling the tyre is OK, but as Schwalbe point out, the pressure of some of their Marathon tyres cannot be gauged by hand because of the puncture protection. Worth changing to Schrader when the opportunity arises.

Rear wheel removal will be a fiddle. You will need to dismount the chain, which hopefully will be possible by shoving the wheel forward. If not, a chain breaker or quick link - and the knack to using either - will be required. The horizontal drop outs mean the wheel may come out only if the...

Volt Impulse vs Freego Eagle vs buying online and unseen

Think seriously about an ordinary push bike. A flat 6.5miles might take a bit of doing at first, but would quickly become easier as your cycle fitness builds. Do it, say, three times a week for a couple of weeks and you'll be surprised how much easier week three would be, compared to week one.

    General Purpose EBike

Woosh bikes are excellent value, but are not so well suited to daily use or lots of miles. Upgrading to a hydraulic disc is a relatively cheap and simple modification.

A newbie who is clueless about E-bikes

Forgot your weight - any bike, e or otherwise can handle it easily. Ease of hill climbing is more to do with power of the motor rather than where it's bolted to the bike. The woosh bikes are pokey and some have bigger batteries. The Motus is a nice bike. I like the Bosch system, but you may...

Bike for fairly fit 75 year old woman wanting assistance on hills

Weight is a consideration whatever sensor the bike has. I think a 75-year-old woman may find an ebike too heavy to (wo)manhandle at stops, starts, restricting gates on cycle paths and the other obstacles we all encounter. A step through would be easier in this respect, even though it might be...
