    bike protection

A friend of mine had his bike lock attacked with a hammer, Abus cable lock, they didnt get the bike, but mangled the lock so badly that he couldnt unlock it, so he called me to come with a hacksaw. 9 hacksaw blades blunted later and it was free. Nobody ever questioned us and we were there for...

    camcorder for helmet

That's the plan, but i haven't figured a helmet mount out for it yet. My helmet is a Casco eMotion, so no vents to poke a strap through. EDIT i'm thinking self adhesive velcro... and

    Wisper brakes revisited

Those very long seat stays could be flexing outwards, good point. On the Cyclamatic the original forks had this problem, they flexed at the v-brake bosses when you applied the brake. When i swapped for Rockshox forks it was 100% better.

    camcorder for helmet

That's one of the smoother Manchester roads:( . The traffic did seem to give me a lot of room, but then i suspect that the worst of the drivers were watching the Manchester derby on TV this afternoon. Commuting traffic is much less respectful...

    Wisper brakes revisited

Its a V-brake isnt it? The best cable you could fit would be a Gore Ride-On, which is sealed and should last as long as the bike without ever needing lubrication. I'f you also change the pads for Shimano or SRAM/Avid you should get the maximum performance from the brake. IIRC they are Tektro...

    electric rohloff hubgear question

Not, i dont think so, i have a hard shell backpack from Boblbee, which i think is sturdy and comfortable enough even for quite a big battery. The hard shell could be drilled and mounts put in. All this said, Wisper's forthcoming DaaHub Extreem may be a better solution with its purpose built...

    electric rohloff hubgear question

This is why i quite fancy a Rohloff, despite the high cost, the longevity should see it pay for itself in time. I typically go through one set of chainrings/chain/cassette/cables each year, at a cost of about £140 a set on my mountain bike. My longterm plan for it is a front hub motor and a rear...

    Braking, or not braking

All true, but suspension forks throw in a few extra considerations. If you just use hard front braking the front end will dive and your rear wheel will leave the ground earlier, and as Sheldon's site says, you need to keep it on the ground, if only just. Applying the rear brake a fraction before...

    Braking, or not braking

Easily, i suspect the low weight is the biggest factor. On both machines the brakes themselves have enough power to lock the wheels and break traction at that speed with very little effort. I've really pushed the limits of bicycle discs over the years, hard the discs glowing red after coming...

    Hannibal Lecter masks and anti-pollution

They could all come from the same factory in China... a bit like a lot of eBikes!:p A friend of mine has them and rates them highly. I use these myself, which come with one clear lens and one photo-reactive, but clearly no cheap. Madison Darcs have always been good too, about £30.

Yep. With lenses for every condition.

    Braking, or not braking

I can stop considerably quicker on my mountain bike (hydraulic disc brakes) than i can on my 1200cc 240kg sports motorcycle from similar speeds, which has similar, but bigger, brakes. The motorcycle is similar to a car in stopping distance.

    electric rohloff hubgear question

I had wondered is Shimano had replaced the original Nexus 8 with the problems with the "Red Band" premium version reviewed here, which never seemed to suffer the same, but as they seem to look the same and the initially were sold alongside each other i was unsure.

    Braking, or not braking

Depends, so many factors involved, some bikes will handle and stop just fine from that sort of speed. Others will get very twitchy and be a real handful.

    Trek T500 E info?

Most normal bikes are available in four or five frame sizes, so the weight varies a lot, thats one reason they tend not to publish the weight. Kona used to publish the weight of every bike they made, but they stopped. Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative always put the weight of their bikes in their...

    electric rohloff hubgear question

The Alfine 11 has a 400%+ range, which is still a little less than a Rohloff, but i hear that it runs smoother than a Rohloff, non of that 4th gear noise issue, and as it uses similar technology, and an oil bath design it *should* be as reliable as the Rohloff too. The Alfine 8 was not nearly as...

    Spot the non bicycle rider!!

Heh, funny, i just commented about this in the thread about brakes. The mentality is that because you're a bike you must be passed, no matter what the consequences!:(

    Seat

I have a Brooks and the two Spoons, they all very comfy, and the brooks didnt take any breaking in either, it was comfy from the moment i fitted it, but i did note that it changed shape after a couple of weeks. Still, i admit it, i bought the Brooks for the name and the looks :D The Spoon is...
