    daahub kit status?

That sounds excellent. :D Would the controller also be in DaaBag? Because i could see an application for a mountain bike where i could swap from normal human power to electric just by swapping the wheel and putting on a backpack! The wiring to the hub could be secured with velcro, and the...

Battery in "DaaBag" appeals greatly for us mountain bikers, will this be an option?

Ride To Work Scheme Skews The Market

I thought the changes were brought in by the Inland Revenue, to align the scheme more with realistic market values at the end of the lease, and had nothing to do with the government? The reality though, is that a bike used for commuting everyday for a whole year is going to be worth next to...

Replacing Second Cars with Electric Bikes

Rich, 27 miles on that terrain is asking a lot from your battery, i know the A170 pretty well, and its not exactly flat! I think perhaps your expectations are a little unrealistic. Or you're ungodly fit, in which case i'd love to be proven wrong! :)

Replacing Second Cars with Electric Bikes

Working on the figures for my Aurora and 14p per Kw electricity, a full charge cycle costs me 5p, for the 20 mile range on high power (worst case scenario range, i can get considerably more on low or medium) The battery costs £350, and based on a 2 year and 500 useful cycle life (i can charge...

Ride To Work Scheme Skews The Market

Correct, the bikes are leased for 12 months, then bought for a final one-off fee after that. Technically, they belong to the company so the user cannot sell them. In reality, the companies dont seem to care what you do with them and that's the problem. I work for the Co-op and they, depsite...

Replacing Second Cars with Electric Bikes

I havent had a car for over three years. I do have a motorbike, but the carrying capacity of that is no more thaan an electric bike, as the panniers are no bigger, also its not rated for any more weight than a bike rack, and it cant take a trailer or front panniers. When i absolutely need the...

    Top Gear and Clarkson

As i understand it, road tax, or more correctly vehicle Excise Duty goes into the big pot of general taxation, together with your income tax and a million other sorts of tax. Council tax pays for more roads than VED, but things like motorways are paid for by central government from that pot of...

    Interference with trip computer

The best cycle computers use the Ant+ digital signal standard, which is more reliable. I'd highly recommend one of those if your budget can stretch to it. They are still not immune to interference though, the only way to guarantee you wont have problems is to use a GPS based device, smartphone...

    Interference with trip computer

Keep it as far from your motor controls as possible on the bars too. Relatively small currents can interfere with computers, for example my 7.2v 900 lumen Lupine lights interfere with mine if they're within 6" of the computer head unit.

    Interference with trip computer

Try putting the magnet and sensor on your rear wheel (sensor on the seat-stay is preferable to the chain-stay. Not always a solution though as some are not strong enough to transmit the longer distance between there and the handlebars. Otherwise, a GPS based speedo may be the best bet.

    Tour de Presteigne 2011

This may be a good time for me to test a Khalkhoff Pro Connect S without travelling all the way to London... and, if i like it, it also happens to be just a week after i receive my bonus :D

Are there any good free running motors that support disk brakes?

I've been thinking of putting a Golden Motor Magic Pie 1000w combined front hub motor and controller on my old Marin full suspension MTB, to create a real powerful off-road hill climber, keeping the big knobbly 2.5" tyres and such, with the battery on a seatpost rack to balance out the weight...

    Saris Bones

Not necessarily, my friend bought a new Specialized Pitch Pro, pic below. He'd bought the bones a few weeks before, for his old bike, but found he was getting really back into riding so bought the Pitch. The suspension makes the front triangle very small, and the Saris arm wouldnt fit in the...

    Saris Bones

Yes, i've used the Bones 3 bike carrier, and they're essentially the same. They tend to fit any car, but not necessarily any bike. If your front triangle is small then you might struggle. Sometimes you can put one arm through the rear triangle, i expect you'd have to do this on a "behind the...
