    CST - it's all working

Cycle Analyst seems to be here. Got a demand for over £20 to pay Royal Mail this morning including an £8 processing fee so they must have done a full value customs invoice or something. Almost decided to let them return it to sender but will probably go collect it - the bottomless pit of cash...

RHS Rosemoor (Torrington) - Eco Fair 6th April

Not down there this weekend else that would have been a great outing. Haven't tried out a Sahel ! Have fun and hope you get a nice day for it. Rosemoor is a very beautiful spot and somewhere I always enjoy visiting.

    NuVinci CVT (Automatic Gears) Hub

Yes, that's one of the things that put me off buying them. Definitely not for me on a touring / primary transport bike. I'd only consider a Haibike AM for off-roading - and then only after getting a car to take it to where I wanted to ride it. Expensive luxury probably not going to happen...

    NuVinci CVT (Automatic Gears) Hub

To be honest, I find the extra 3 gears on the 11 speed Alfine enough - no complaints at all and far more pleasant to ride generally than a derailleur bike. Did think I'd change my mind with more use on the MTB bike-wise, but still not keen on riding bikes with with derailleurs much - a...

    NuVinci CVT (Automatic Gears) Hub

How does changing the gearing break the law, flecc ? I'm missing a link there in the dot-joining game ! I do agree you need higher gears to ride happily above assist limits on crank drives. Not sure about derailleurs but for me an 8sp hub gear system wouldn't be enough.

    CST - it's all working

Perhaps on the limits - I guess it's a combo of time, will and other commitments also. I don't have other bikes down SW to ride whilst I'm playing about sorting this one, or any tool kit / place to work there (let alone time), so it can't go down until it's completely finished - and I really...

    CST - it's all working

Indeed. There have been a fair few more compromises and a great deal more obstacles than I'd bargained on already lol. Not least of which being my own unfamiliarity with most of it and the sheer time it takes to get one's head around it. I don't think the bike warrants a fibreglass box - there...

    CST - it's all working

Thx Richard. I may end up doing something like that - it's proving extremely hard to get the wood box solution to work with this battery and controller in the space available and I may need to start the whole thing over having gone to test it. Or just get a frame bag and have done with it...

Steep Learning Curve in the Peak District.....

JimB, if you want a crank drive hub gear step-through, you could consider the Kalkhoff Agattus which have mechanical hub gears - either Alfine 8-sp or Alfine 11-sp. They're lovely bikes and they ride just like ordinary bikes unpowered or above assist limits. That's interesting - so there is a...

    CST - it's all working

Possibly so - but I don't like working with metal (don't take to it as a material at all I'm afraid ... will use it when I have to but basically I don't like it much). You still have to fix it so it doesn't rattle as a HUGE metal box. The Stealth bomber type boxes also cover loads of the frame...

    CST - it's all working

Nope. The battery is actually sufficiently supported by the main wood frame which in turn will have horizontal supports when the sides are on. There'll be space for some padding / insulation in the 1/2 inch between the battery and the plywood edges of the box when they go on. d8veh made one...

    CST - it's all working

1st fit of battery box frame sides. It's blooming tight - but I can get the battery in. Have lost a bit of depth on account of needing clearance for the front derailleur and I've millimetres spare to make sure there's sufficient pedal clearance.Would be dead easy just to build in the battery...

What do controller and motor ratings actually mean

So all you have to do is introduce a power delivery lag via the controller so the acceleration isn't instant and then you can happily run 1k - 2k continuous power up your hills as the trade-off and provided this tails off at 15.5mph EN15194's your badge ? If so then what a joke ... makes the...

    Better gloves or bar mitts??

Interesting .... think I kind of understand - but wonder whether my grips would dislodge the wires or be capable of sliding over the masking tape barrier on top of the Constantan wires - they're designed to be quite a close fit even before they've been tightened up. I also don't understand the...

    e-Brompton after thousand of miles

Trust me, if I can do it then so can you ! Just needs a lot of patience, a suitable spoke wrench and a few spare spoke nipples. I sat in front of the telly doing mine over a couple of evenings... with a load of advice and a book. It wasn't as hard as it first seemed although having to dish it...

    Help needed

You could well get away with it. But you'd always be running the risks. Within the scope of 250W rated bikes there are some very nice ones - albeit with the inherent limitations that the performance testing will accommodate... and I don't know of any that I'd be confident would get me up a...

Your choice. You know you're buying a bike that's illegal to ride in the UK, unless you ride it on private land only to which the public have no access, or you get it registered as a low powered moped, attach a number plate, get a free tax disc, have it MOT'd, only ride it on roads (not cycle...

    Better gloves or bar mitts??

I just came across this - after seeing reference to heated grips on my handlebar switch installation instructions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEad-0if9vM Wonder how much current / battery they would draw ... must admit if I had to rise through another Winter I'd be tempted to try to rig...

    36v horn

Still learning so much off doing this conversion - was almost all complete gobbledegook when I put in the order for those parts in January and never really believed I'd get all this sorted out on top of the basic motor & controller. Starting to understand the scope of what you can rig up now...

Converting from Rim brakes to disc

Much better. You're a dab hand with those metalworking skills. Must really help broaden the scope for adapting things to fit your projects. After watching you further modify that torque arm I splashed out on an 850W angle grinder in Wickes sale today. Am hoping it might come in handy to make...
