Is this a daft thought ?

D8veh is already there with a twin-drive, but permanently connected. Your idea would be fine if using them entirely seperately, but simultaneous throttle control is problematic if you try to use them uphill - d8veh cracked that with one unit common to both. I suppose you could have one twist...

    DNP Epoch Freewheels..and gearing question

The key is reliability and simplicity. There's a good reason why the Chinese used the ancient freewheel setup - easy to make and can be knocked out with minimal setup. With a cassette system the splined hub would have to be either an integral part of the motor casing or bolted on - either way is...

    DNP Epoch Freewheels..and gearing question

Freewheels were definitely on the way out until the Chinese re-introduced them to the West with their hub-motored e-bikes. It would be harder to adequately and cheaply engineer a cassette system onto a hub with a high degree of reliability, I would think. Just look at how easy and cheap it is to...

Still having e-Wayfarer Folder fun - should I keep Lith-Ion batteries kool?

Cool-ish, but not freezing. As an example- when putting them into storage, it's recommended to store them at 5deg C and 60% charge. If you're using it sporadically, it's unlikely to make much difference anyway.

    DNP Epoch Freewheels..and gearing question

I only use two gears anyway - 32T for taking away from a standstill and then whang it straight onto the 13T for cruising and back to the 32T when coming to a junction. With two front chainwheels and three at the back I'd be covered for unpowered riding, because that gives a very good range...

    DNP Epoch Freewheels..and gearing question

These big chain rings are one-offs or small batch production whereas the freewheels and cassettes are turned out in their millions. Freewheels, less so, nowadays.

    DNP Epoch Freewheels..and gearing question

I've come to the conclusion that only three gears are really needed on my bike anyway - and I still have the three chainwheels up front, which I intend to reduce to a pair. If the 11toothed cog will screw further down onto the the freewheel body, I'd be inclined to shed some of the other cogs...

    Hah. Didn't think so.

Oh yes, that works well enough. My old guard didn't have the extra width on the bracket to allow ties to hold it any way securely. I was sure there would be a Bomber-fit bracket somewhere, but every one I looked at just had the normal centre slot /hole. I've got them now and it leaves a set of...

A bright light may save your life

Yep. I found exactly the same when I first took to London streets on a motorcycle. Before too long I was doing exactly the same as every other rider and going for gaps that I'd previously thought didn't exist :) I must say, London drivers are actually very good, even if in some instances the...

    Just starting another build...Question

So what? It's a work in progress. I don't see any of your creations and until you're prepared to show them and back up your laughter at someone else's efforts, it might be as well to keep schtum.

    Just starting another build...Question

It's got rough edges, and it's not the way I'd do it, but at least he did it. Have you made one from scratch?

    Winter Gloves

I recalled I had a set of shorty grey leather ex-Wehrmacht officer gloves that I use for summer m'bike riding but are light enough for bicycling, since there's not a lot of sweat raised in this weather on an ebike - at least, not the way I ride. I just tried them out - perfectly fine, no wind...

They've just arrived and they fit excellently and much better than the old ones; the rear being a couple of inches longer and with that distinctive beaver's ass will really help. I wish the front had a similar end, but it's easy enough to add a flap-type-thingy. Upshot is, the front will mount...

    Brightest possible front light

Many of the high-power LEDs will fry themselves if left running too long at full belt - they need careful heatsinking for that kind of use, and most of the available ones aren't all that well done.

    Cheap eBay crank drive kit

Interesting - I don't suppose you recall the model or type number of the motor or the machine it came out of?

    Wavy tyre tread- any fixes??

I stopped doing that when I discovered that most of the cheapy washing -up liquids contain large amounts of salt, as a thickener. Fairy Liquid might be ok, but I still don't chance it. Swarfega or hand soap will do the job better and not corrode the guts out of your wheel.

    Mossy roads and paths

Hah; every day's a slippy day around here, with all the cow muck on the road - it's not good, having no front guard, when (sh)it flicks up in the air and lands on my face.

Excellent! I've been trying to find a front guard with exactly that type of bracket with the two side holes to fit my old Bombers. Cheers Dave
