    Just starting another build...Question

Hobbyking now have a UK warehouse, but I've not ordered anything from it yet and when I was poking around I kept getting redirected to the International stock, with suitably high postage costs.

Will e-bikes ever enjoy mainstream popularity in the UK?

Doubling is crazy economics. Bloody Hell, did the prat who proposed that ever do anything with their life other than sit on their ass in a classroom then an office? No better way to pee customers off than an absurd rise in charges - it could have been done in increments and within a couple of...

    Lithium Polymer Safety

It's fine - it would be a different story if you'd hacked together a battery pack from old laptop cells or even new lipos - then you'd be better to take precautions. However, a consumer battery that's designed to be charged by someone with no technical knowledge will be ok. OK, if you really...

    Hydraulic disks on ebikes

Ah, found it... Tektro In-Line Power Modulator > Components > Brakes > Brake Parts and Service Kits | Jenson USA Online Bike Shop I suspect that there's a wasted-motion arrangment in there, so absorbing some of the effort from the cable. And here it is at wiggle, now discontinued... Wiggle...

    Hydraulic disks on ebikes

It was designed for exactly this application - upgrading an old canti system to V-brakes, but keeping the original levers. I came across it on the Wiggle site, or it might have been Evans, after I'd fitted the V-brakes and realised that it might have been useful. By that time I'd got used to the...

    Come for a ride.............

One thing I've learned over the years - the world will never suffer from a shortage of ass holes.

    Come for a ride.............

Damn, that means I'll have more time to spend swigging whisky and rolling tacos at the wheel, then. I find reading the morning papers and eating a breakfast roll so relaxing at 85mph. I don't go faster than that in case it's dangerous, cos you know what they say about speed - kills you, stone dead.

    Hydraulic disks on ebikes

One thing I found with retro-fitting V-brakes to an older cantilevered system is not just the better action and effect of the V-brake upgrade, but the effect of not knowing about (and not fitting) the leverage reducer for the cantilever system brake lever. The absence of it makes the V-brake...

    Bike For A Heavy Rider

I agree - ally frames are wonderful, but under the stress of a grossly overweight rider there's a real risk of sudden failure whereas a decent steely would either not fail at all or do it more gracefully.

You see, this is what happens when 'celebrity' and Eck's Faktur are more important in people's lives than actually learning something at skool. Eny fuel no you can lead a horse to culture but you can't make it think.

"The pumped-up East German, Michael Heubner". If he took any more steroids, he'd be a chemist shop. :) Legs like a barrowfull of giant squid.

    Bike For A Heavy Rider

I was 143.5kg when I took up cycling again. The old Claud Butler Oracle which I bought new 20 years ago stood up to it. Mind you, in the first year I had it (when I was nothing like as heavy as that) I had the rear wheel rebuilt with stronger spokes and they didn't give any problems with the...

Just more dishonesty - but at least the second one says 'designed in GB'. However, just because your neighbour burgles houses, doesn't mean you have to, eh?

I agree with those points. If a product contains at least 70% of a total of hardware and assembly costs sourced in the UK, then it's British, in my eyes. Any less than that, it's not British.

    GoPedelec Handbook

Yes, that's a trick that's been used successfully before. Screw the parameters down tight and squeeze the punters until they scream - but as long as they cough up the cash, the so-called "Testing and Approval" or "Registration" organisation don't care. I tend to look askance at these things and...

    Winter Gloves

No, but those I know who have them, swear by them. With modern battery packs it's trivial to carry enough heating power in your pocket, as you'd not want to run down your motive battery.
