Loving front hub drive in the snow.

Wish they did that more widely ... went into Cheltenham yesterday and tried to use a cycle path. Lethal combination of half-melted slush and sheet ice on the cycle route serving the Station and several other parts of the town. No sign of any efforts to keep it clear. Continental Winter IIs...

    The great british e-bike scam

Interesting though, that the OP compares pricing in US and Australia as well as Europe. Those countries are not in the EU either and also not in a single currency. UK prices coming out at 50-100% more than Europe, US and Australia with maybe a marginal improvement in specification. That just...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Cassette re-assembled. (1-7) / +8th / +9th Looked just the same. Mounted - clearances looked just as before. Only one way to be sure - fitted the chain on and checked operation. Looked very tight before chain fitted but it actually works fine. Relieved. Should be ready to start...

    Portable kickstand

Weight-weenie wonderland ! Won't work with a rear-drive eBike though. I like the idea a lot actually and bound to be really easy to make with a folding rod to begin with. Choice of propping points, especially with a cross-bar. Just swap out the handle of one of these for a hook : Adjustable...

    Portable kickstand

Came across this ... looks handy if you don't want to have to have one mounted on the bike all the time (or can't easily accommodate one) : How Click-Stand, the Portable Folding Kickstand, Works Interesting idea. Photo of it holding bike up on wet sand - wonder if that really works !

    Torque arm challenges

Doesn't seem to work for vertical dropouts with these torque arms.. Might have aligned just right with horizontal ones. If I can get away with not drilling the frame would rather do that.

    Torque arm challenges

Like this ... ? That would work if it's not going to transfer tension to the rack stay and affect / overload the bolt (hadn't thought it through but what was in back of mind that couldn't have dual use for some reason ). The Cyclezee arm would likely not even require drilling and...

    Torque arm challenges

Had another look and it's definitely going to be down to whether I can regain full use of my rear rack mount holes whether project proceeds with this bike and kit. Seatpost rack is not strong enough to substitute a proper rear rack for intended use - and as I have a full carbon seatpost that...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

I'll recheck that. The top 2 gears are separate on this cassette so could be I haven't got one or either of them aligned right.

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

I think these are the missing photos. Browser kept crashing and doing odd things last night with uploading and think the links got corrupted somehow during an edit. I can see them when clicking but maybe not others . Didn't put the end bolts on so you could see siting of the axles...

    Torque arm challenges

Yes thanks for that d8veh. It's the last photo above and was actually the 1st option I tried. Even if you grind away and round off around the torque arm fixed in that point like in your photo, it looks like it'll pretty much obstruct the rack mount hole too on account of their relative positions...

    Torque arm challenges

I knew these were going to be a bit of a b'stard ... been playing about to see what can be done. Arms are M12 from BMS. The bike is upside down with the motor axle slotted in the dropouts. Axles aren;t the longest for adding these in  1st appraisal - drive side. A full swing to...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Bit more testing of fit ... motor, cranks & dropouts Played about with the motor a bit tonight to check that all fits. Not built it into a wheel yet so just took out the existing rear wheel and dropped the motor axles in for a first fitting. Bit of fiddling about and decided to fit the...

    New build.

Understood. Many thanks . Haven't bled brakes before and they would normally be bled on-bike (apparently) - just had a momentary vision of Monty Python moments with fluid spraying out all over kitchen, bike and me when cable cut . Must get some empty boxes cleared from garage to...

    New build.

.. ah - I see .... this is why I ask such questions of those more knowledgeable ;) ! Had in my little head that if it went in the hose it must be at one end of the hosing or the other :o. But the reality is of course having the courage to cut a section out of one's hydraulic hosing so it can go...

    New build.

Some very interesting points being raised here. Amigafan, you've definitely got yourself a nice effective cheap solution there and for a standalone brake lever it looks just the thing. Had another look at the lever operation and main thing is on these particular combo-shifters, there is quite a...

    New build.

About to get a solution mapped out for mine and wondering if this would be viable / best approach for me too - it's one of the outstanding ???? on the how to's.... Photos of left hand combined hydraulic disc brake levers / gear shifters (from top, underside and facing bike) : Brake /...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

I know .. sturdy bags are blooming pricey. I'm willing to put some dosh where my wild ideas are on this one and spend up to £80-100. Hoping it's do'able for that and a realistic budget but realize might be tight. Just sold my Carradice poncho I'll never use (too heavy) for £50 so that'll help...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

nice touch ... proof positive that he's not just a dab hand with a dremeling tool and a soldering iron :) I'll sketch out a drawing with some dimensions and get hold of buggy-bags to see what they would charge. There are also sailmakers not far from me in Devon who I'm sure would also make...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Can't help thinking I'd rather hook one of these instead, but no chance of that with a frame bag  .... http://cdn.purseblog.com/images/2011/04/6-pack-frame-cinch.jpg :)
