    Wheel building

Cardboard dishing tool duly made from the diagram in Roger Musson's book and taken out most of the dish before final tensioning and truing as recommended. Used in-situ with axle sat in the dropouts on an upturned frame. Used it in place of a truing stand so I can sit down and work on...

    The great british e-bike scam

... and the reason for that is that for every one like you who gets thanked for your efforts there are a bunch of others (myself included) who have come in for a great deal of flack from the authorities for stepping in when they were nowhere to be found. After a couple of bouts of that it's easy...

If you mean me, I've never read any articles on Tonaro Eagles. Fisheagles, maybe, but not Tonaro ones so far as I recall ;)

    S class bikes

Ah - thanks for clarifying that - it looks like a seatpost rack from the pics so always good to know these things and get factual informative comments. Still, even more reason why it wouldn't suit me unless it's for a bike to be ridden for the sake of riding it and going home, which at...

    S class bikes

Thanks - very illuminating. The Bighit has a seatpost rack. Point is this type of rack would not stand up to being loaded with heavy loads of gear or goods on the back of the bike... which is what I bought my crank drive bike for, not offroading. I have clocked many makes of bike but did not...

    S class bikes

Ah - for some reason I always visualize a Bighit or Compy when thinking of Tonaro. Are the torque claims really realistic ? The "massive 128 n/m torque - more than double most hub motors" from a crank drive sounds a bit of a claim. This has probably all been discussed before ... it's not a bike...

    Rocky Mountain Element Conversion

Yes that's clearer - many thanks. Just thinking a bit more on the removable panel, as much to gain access to the charger point more easily as anything else, do you think on a full triangle box that the panel could say be made a full one from the top tube to the down tube over an appropriate...

    Rocky Mountain Element Conversion

It's looking pretty much a no-brainer... one more question, is the charger / controller access panel just cut out of one of the sides with a jigsaw and screwed in to inner frame ? I was thinking about hinges but might be tricky to get to work well / secure.

    Enclosing gear cabling

Loose liner almost certainly then. Wasn't sure if the outers were lined - I know now. Will get measuring when I get home :). Ball of string hunt on the way !

    Rocky Mountain Element Conversion

Blown away by how neat and good looking that frame setup is and has got me stopped dead in my tracks on the bag to be honest. Did you use drinks bottle holder holes to screw in to the frame on the seat tube and down tube ... and how did you secure to the top tube (is that a bracket I see painted...

    Enclosing gear cabling

I think it's mainly because the extra 3 gears are squeezed on to the same sized spline within the unit (only got a vague idea of how it works as never opened one up). I guess everything comes at a price ! I'll keep an eye on how it runs from now - but this seems like a clever fix if the...

    S class bikes

Seatpost rack would barely take my chain let alone my shopping, and battery capacity has 1/3 of the "claimed range" that would be of interest. Functional suitability comes first on a first bike :) ..

    Enclosing gear cabling

It's probably right - was installed by a bike shop for the guy I bought it off .... just didn't know if you could change / tweak the tension of a fixed length chain. Without looking into it, I'm guessing probably not ! Interesting. Cable routed via top tube on the MTB (but that's derailleur)...

    S class bikes

That's exactly the same feeling I had with my bike when I first started riding it ... and before I came to accept it as inevitable consequence of the speed restrict. This is where a large gear range comes into its own - on the flat you can nudge them up and capitalize on the momentum that way...

    Enclosing gear cabling

^^ Those were my initial thoughs and might just try that way for a bit. The work is all in resetting the gears - figured if I was going to have to do that may as well replace the cables when installing the housing so everything good as new ... and then thought about upgrading the shifters too at...

Be careful with these e-bay scammers

I'm sure you must be having an amazing time. I love Cape Town and the surrounding area and many happy memories of the place. When I was a kid, our family used to go there for 3 weeks every Christmas / New Year for over a decade in the early days staying in town and then in Newlands / Constantia...
