I read somewhere that the dft knows about this Friday last week but didn't do anything about it then

that is agreed. I have not seen any case where companies firing people have been punished for lack of notification.

the notification period is added in the compensation. It's not illegal to tell people that they are fired and don't have to turn up for work, lock them out of the gates without negotiation. It's totally heartless but the bosses can do that by text or zoom call.

I think firing people is not illegal. The only negotiating point is the amount of compensation which is subjected to the employment contracts and usually higher than the legal amount which is capped at about £16,000.

I am not a security expert but I do spend a lot of time reading manuals and on the internet because of my job and I do know how buggy every version of windows has been and is. Still, don't believe that humans can write bug-free code, even in assembler.

why? I use every version of windows without any third party antivirus software, including the one I am typing on at the moment. Sure, I install anti-virus software for clients. As for privacy, the phone is the primary source of spy holes.

China will have to make up their mind in the next couple of weeks. The UN International Court of Juctice has ordered Russia to stop the war. China will have to follow the decision one way or another so I guess China may supply truck tyres but not drones or missiles.

that reminds me of the early years when IBM tried to sue Phoenix and AMI for infringing their IBM PC BIOS copyrights. Both Phoenix and AMI use clean room reverse engineering to avoid these disputes.

what is the point? in the scheme of things, the cost of the OS is so low that OSes are chosen for their features rather than low cost. So why re-invent the old Windows 2000?

let's see how long their support will last. I'd give it a month. I was fully expecting Putin to annex Donetsk and Luhansk and somehow a track of land to link up with Crimea but not sending missiles into civilian housing blocks, not in 2022. Bush's shock and awe hitting Baghdad don't compare...

I am pretty sure that export from Russia will resume soon. What is less sure is the outcome of the war. Russia can demolish Ukrainian cities but someone has to pay for reconstruction. That someone is most likely Russia in the long term, not the West. The priority of the West is to supply its...

too late for that now. The war does not go very well for Mr Putin. It's just a matter of time before the Ukrainians start pushing them back.

I think the cards are in the air at the moment but Russia will be crippled with this war. At the end of the day, Russia is no match for the US and NATO. Putin has been foolish to send his troops too deep into Ukraine, the vast terrain now reduces their maneuverability. How can he re-supply them...

Zelenskiy said yesterday on TV that the damage to Ukrainian properties and infrastructure would cost in excess of $400 billions and he would like Russia to pay for it. What do you think?
