Best bike for super tall guy

Oh and ninethly, it's not enough to be able to reach the pedals with a straightened leg (from a good seat/suspension post combo as and when required) , you also need lots of knee bend available, otherwise the knee can hyperextend backwards injuring your knees;plus you need at least certain...

Best bike for super tall guy

Stop!✋I'm 6'5" but have the leg length of someone 5'5". The important measurement isn't height and frame size but inside leg measurement (ie leg length) and distance from seat top to bottom bracket (allowing extra 175mm for crank-length). In English that means if you get a bike that's too...

Bafang 250w kit died up a hill. Battery was fine. Any ideas?

I'd go with what Nealh is saying. The first things to check are the most easily caused /simplest /most obvious as a)they're the most likely and b) they're the easiest to confirm &fix. My bet is the wiring. I'll go further & guess a pin has slipped out of one of the connectors.

1-1-2016 Today's Change in the Law.

Flecc is spot on, being courteous to police is always a good idea. Just at a moral level, of all the post-purchase modifications I can imagine, like hot-rodding the thing to hell, fitting a £2 hand-throttle to give dodgy knees a rest seems unbelievably neutral. One to write to the MP about. I...

Old, fat, and a bit infirm - which leccy bike should I get?

I agree it's vital to get one with a low RPM like 201. Re the amps, according to D8veh above 20a doesn't give extra torque on a CST 250w at 36v (although in a later post he thought it might). However in any case, my battery, a good one, same that BMSB sell, has max continuous discharge of...

Old, fat, and a bit infirm - which leccy bike should I get?

My CST 180mm/14.5ah battery setup struggles on hills at 36v without pedalling, even with a 23a KU93, it is 270rpm but I don't think that explains everything. I did a whole thread on it at endless sphere and the consensus was one needs 48v & i think they were right.

Old, fat, and a bit infirm - which leccy bike should I get?

Because outside of flat countries, even with a powerful motor, 36v really requires a lot of pedalling input to get up substantial hills and 48v you might get away with none although even then I'm not sure. The OP wrote: "I cannot cycle due to a fused ankle and back problems, just cant make the...

Old, fat, and a bit infirm - which leccy bike should I get?

P.S. if I had my choice of stepthrough, money not being an object, I think I'd get a modern Dutch one (although this is showroom-window talk, I've never actually ridden one). https://www.batavus.nl/stadsfietsen. It's probably more sensible to get something for £50 on eBay. Wooshbikes can...

Old, fat, and a bit infirm - which leccy bike should I get?

I think you're into 48v (kit) territory. Comfortwise you don't need suspension - just balloon tyres (Schwalbe Big Apples) or so - and a bike which will take them. Probably a suspension seat post. A nice Selle Royal Respiro relaxed or moderate seat (depending on whether you want to sit upright or...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

I take it the current legislation requires full sva after 2016 for throttles, ie no dispensation yet given? Just trying to work out if we need to start lobbying the DfT.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Follow-up email from the European Commission. They seem to say that member states can make the rules that they want re non-type-approved (i.e. non-large-run) bikes. It's only type-approved bikes which their rules relate to. So the UK can if it wants legislate for throttles to be OK with or...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

This thing about pedalling and cutouts, isn't that an EU thing? I think that only applies therefore to type approval if so (am I wrong?) :-) Going to post something else in a second which I think is illuminating, email from the European Commish.

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Thanks for your helpful post. This bit I am not sure about though. Type approval EU law seems to be addressed at large manufacturers of new bikes only; 'competence', i.e. the job and power of making law, in the areas not covered by the type approval law, seem to be firmly in the hands of the UK...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

Interesting q. Do you have a citation for the law so we can check the wording? Re sva I've got confused and forgotten what the UK rules are. Didn't the DfT write to you or someone else saying we were ok to use throttles on conversions or so? Do you remember if there was also some special...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

If I'm right, type approval only applies to the sale of new bikes. Could that mean that a retailer is free to fit a throttle for the customer after the bike has been sold, ie is no longer new? Just thinking how to help the commenter you replied to. Although maybe I've got confused. Didn't the...

    another which one...sorry.

Just be aware if getting a CST/BPM that you need one with the right winding, which is expressed either in an rpm figure or a code. The rpm for hills needs to be low, 235 max, preferably 201, to get good torque, and there are even some below that (although v rare for bafang). Smaller wheels...

Will the end of full speed throttles in January 2016 cause a rush to buy.

The European Commission wrote back to me. I've made a couple of comments and pasted the email below. It looks like constructors of large-run ebikes can modify the bikes after the moment they're sold, to include a throttle, if UK law allows (because 168/2013 is addressed only at manufacturers...

Shipping electric bike from UK to USA

Suppliers really do know the cheapest cheapest ways of doing these things otherwise they wouldn't be in business. If 50 cycles won't tell you who they use (indeed you could ask them or your original supplier to do it for you at cost,or at cost plus a small fee,as a favour, which keeps their...

    Rack Mounted Battery - Woosh

If the ebay rack is no good, you could also put an ad in the 'wanted' section of the forum - likewise on Endless Sphere (taking care to state your location as most of them are in America).
