    Helmet debate... new twist

On the contrary, illegality of drugs fuels crime. Make them legal and society benefits; the users may be damaged but that is their responsibility. If you really want to protect society as a whole then alcohol and tobacco should also be prohibited. Tobacco kills more people than all other drugs...

    Helmet debate... new twist

It seems to me that helmets are effective in reducing injury. Their sole function is to absorb the shock and energy of an impact and thereby reduce injury to the most critical part a rider's head. Unless there is evidence that helmets are ineffective then surely there is an argument for them...

    Hansard Extracts

David - A government that seriously wishes to tackle climate change and obesity could well consider the experiences of Holland and Copenhagen where dedicated cycle lanes have resulted in much higher levels of cycle use and lower accident levels than in the UK. Such infrastructure being in place...

    Drivers in the dock: Tonight

The parts where a 'panel' had to vote on who was responsible in a series of staged accidents between a car driver and a cyclist were predictably vox pop tabloid nonsense that is the staple of documentaries now. There was an interesting item about the Dutch way of keeping cyclists separated from...

Oiling chain on a Pro Connect?

Thanks guys, some great tips. :) I'm also interested in finding the best chain lube. Personally I use TF2 with Teflon spray at the moment and try and use it frequently. But I'm never sure which the best one is and opinion seems to be very diverse on this topic.

Oiling chain on a Pro Connect?

Does anyone have any tips on oiling the chain on a Pro Connect? With my other bikes I have always run the chain backwards in order to clean it with a rag and then spray oil on while it is spinning. The Pro Connect doesn't allow me to do this as the freewheel appears to be at the bike crank...

    Gloves

I used Specialized Radiant gloves for the first time today. I bought them following a good review on Bikeradar.com. It was pretty cold morning and after a 40 mile ride my fingers were still nicely warm. 7 Of The Best Winter Road And Commuting Gloves - BikeRadar

First electric bike - Pro Connect

I should have mentioned that when I put the battery on the charger no lights came on initially and then the 1st light did start flashing quickly at the start. I probably missed the fast flash on the bike as I was tired and the sun was pretty bright in the crisp clear day we have had today making...

First electric bike - Pro Connect

Update on Pro Connect battery conditioning Taking James' and Flecc's advice I took my Pro Connect our for a battery conditioning ride to take the battery down to the fast flashing light stage. I rode on full power for the whole trip. 1st light went out at 11.9 miles, 2nd at 22 miles. The slow...

    Panasonic Unit Battery Information

Sounds good. A 50% increase in range! I have the the extra large frame Pro Connect which does leave quite a bit of free space above the battery but I don't know how the smaller frames would fare.

    Panasonic Unit Battery Information

Flecc -Thanks for your new section, very useful reference. You have piqued my interest with "....a prospect of a larger one in the near future". Do you know what Ah rating it will be and will it slot into existing Panasonic units?

    Wisper 905SE City 5 month - 3500 mile review

Good to hear about its performance over the long haul. When I was deciding which bike to buy I was very attracted to a Wisper bike but its apparent unsuitability for someone of my height (6' 4") was the main factor in deciding against it. Hopefully a large frame version will be produced in the...

Thanks. I take it that it isn't too late to do a full discharge at this point?

First electric bike - Pro Connect

Hi James. At 24 miles the last light was flashing slowly but not the quick flashing that indicates an immediate recharge required, so you are probably right that a few more miles may have been available. Should I have drained the battery completely flat?

First electric bike - Pro Connect

Flecc - Thanks. I thought I had created a small image but somehow managed to create a massive low-resolution picture instead. My post is now amended with a link to a Picasa web album.

First electric bike - Pro Connect

I took delivery of my first bike two days ago, the Kalkhoff Pro Connect from 50cycles. Only problem noticed on delivery was a slightly loose reflector on a pedal - a trifling matter that was soon fixed. So far I've taken it out on two battery conditioning runs, i.e. fully charged and then rides...

    Drag in Bionx system

Thanks for everyone's comments (even Bigbee's). Really good to have personal experiences. The drag question was really important to me as it would be annoying to find you had a system that was a permanent problem.

    Drag in Bionx system

I have read a number of articles on the benefits/disbenefits of regenerative systems. There appears to be a consensus that the benefits are not very large with the current state of technology. However it seems to me that if a system could offer power regeneration with no drawbacks it may be...
