Looking for my first electric bike

As you said you lack stamina, I would say go for cadence sense rather than torque sense. That way, if you get knackered, you can get home by merely rotating the pedals, putting in zero effort. A torque sense won't do this for you as it gives assist power proportional to the amount of effort...

    Bike rack on a trailer.

My main concern , with an unloaded trailer, would be the amount of bounce from the rubber suspension. Think I've got a few spare paving slabs hanging around ! With the existing load straps the bikes already form a tight unit with no movement. I used woven ratchet straps not bungees. It...

    Bike rack on a trailer.

What I needed was to carry my bikes on my camping trailer but still be able to access my camping gear. The racks also needed to be demountable as I use the trailer for logs, materials, trips to the tip etc. O.K. So I decided to go for a pair of Thule 598's from Roofbox, as they were the only...

    Haibike sDuro HardSeven - Rusting

I thought that the solvent, in the likes of WD40, disolved the manufacturers grease out of chains. I agree with Dave, it's a freeing agent not a lube.

2 bikes to choose from - feel free to post an alternative

If you've got a bike that you love and you've got the skills, why not do a conversion? You could do a top class job for way less that £4500. That way, if you break anything you're already clue'd in to fixing it. I would think that £1000 would get you a stonking kit with a huge battery.

    Bike rack on a trailer.

Like my paintwork too much to go lying one bike on top of another. However this has got me thinking about brace strapping and how to do it.

    Bike rack on a trailer.

Damn! That's so simple and half the price I've just paid to have my bars made. Still I'm committed now - or perhaps I should be !o_O

    Bike rack on a trailer.

Thanks for the suggestion Alan. Unfortunately I can't use that because I have a Vitara with a rear mounted spare wheel. Also one bike is a stepthrough, although I am aware of frame converters. How I wish such a simple solution would work.:( VictoryV you bring up some apparently valid...

    Bike rack on a trailer.

I'd rather use a proprietry rack to make sure the bikes are good and secure. Thule 598 looks good, just not sure if it will fit 25mm square tube. Might have to bite the bullit and see. I'll post photos when it's all done, in case it helps someone else.

From Zephyr to Big Bear maybe?

My wife has a Big Bear LS and we live in west Wales. It can certainly handle the hills with ease. However the riding position is very upright, so there is not much weight over the front wheel. Therefore it can lose traction on steeper sections that are either wet or loose surface. Also you...

    Bike rack on a trailer.

So, I've had the local blacksmith make me a pair of de-mountable 'roof bars' for my 6'x4' camping trailer. The cross bars are 1" square tube. I need to find a pair of cycle racks that will mount onto the bars and will carry my pedelecs (approx 25Kg each). One is a Big Bear step through the...

Humane way of scaring off unwanted neighbourhood cats

I'm not sure anyone 'owns' a cat. The big ginger tom, who lives at our house, turned up about 18 months ago. He came in through the door as I came home late one night, took a tour around all the rooms, decided we'd do and hasn't left since. That despite not feeding him for the first ten days...

    Newbie pedelec questions

I have a self converted Carrera Crossfire3, all in (panniers, toolkit water bottlr etc.etc.) it weighs 28Kg. Without power it is an absolute pig and I can only get about 5mph out of it. Put it on level 2/5 and I fly along at 12-14mph. I run front tyre at max pressure and rear at about 45psi...

    Looking for advice

Hi DX, Have a look at Woosh Big Bear. It's in diamond frame or step through, has a big hub motor and a 15Ah battery. They say it's for 5'6" and above and for the 'larger framed person'. My wife has a step through and is 5'6" and the saddle could come down more. It gets her around hilly Wales...

New to Ebikes and Conversation Kits... Help?

I can recommend the Ezee kit, I have the front wheel motor and I live in Wales. Hills no problemo, in fact I have been known to laugh out loud when tackling some of the back lanes, hill climbing torque is spetacular. (Having said that I'm a leisure cyclist and don't envy your post 12 hour...

    Insurance for e-bikes

I tried to get my bikes covered on the Co-op house insurance. They said they would cover the wife's Big Bear at home and out and about, that's an £850 bike. But my converted Carrera, which I reckon would be about £1200 to replace, they would only cover at home. Either way it was only for whole...

    Hosehold appliance wiring colours?

Brown and blue is just the start. The 3 phase colours used to be red, yellow blue with black as the neutral. Nice bright colours to see the difference, kinda cheerful too. Now, in the interests of harmonisation we are told, they are a dull brown, grey, black with blue as the neutral...

Pedelec for touring and day rides

Well they're claiming a range of 30 - 110 miles. https://www.e-bikeshop.co.uk/Raleigh-Motus-2016-Electric-Bike Given that it's a 400Wh battery I should of thought that the lower end of that spread is more realistic. That said, I have no experience of this particular drive system.
