    Panasonic crank drive systems

Does anyone know if the Panasonic IBS system used by BH is essentially the same as the one Kalkhoff used on their Pro Connect bikes, with similar performance characteristics so max output is dependent on a set cadence ?

    Magicshine battery dying quickly

It's just a different shaped housing that you usually see with higher output lights of this type. Mine was exactly the same.

    Lovely ride. We're Happy.

Badger baiting, dicky birds and now dogging .... I thought I was on the wrong forum for a minute !

Decent shifting systems on crank drive pedelecs

Indeed I can see that for a hub-drive bike. The OP was aimed squarely at crank-drive / PAS bikes. The Rohloff has a twist-changer so messing about with a thumb throttle isn't really going to make for an especially elegant solution. Plus there's a limit to what unmodified 250W hub motors with...

Decent shifting systems on crank drive pedelecs

It would be a waste really ... you'd need a front wheel hub motor which wouldn't drive through the gears anyway. The beauty of a good centre drive crank system is the sensors which allow a range of cadence so you can actually 'ride' the underlying bike if you want to - which is where the gears...

Decent shifting systems on crank drive pedelecs

I definitely agree in some respects. It's not all bad with zee Germans - Kalkhoff redeemed themselves by using Magura HS hydraulic brakes and installing front hub dynamo lights for your backups with a rear light that gets brighter as you brake. Both decent quality higher end parts that cost a...

£3K to spend, what would you recommend?

Dutch bike doesn't mean baskets and tulips ... Here's a piccy of the Agattu out on test and a review to go with it ... electricbikemag.co.uk::Review: Kalkhoff Agattu C11 Impulse Premium (mid 2012) You mentioned comfort in your OP and this is about as comfortable as bikes get. The C11...

Car driver charged with manslaughter over London cyclist death

... and you should see a bunch of Magistrates let loose on sentencing decisions. It's quite terrifying what they can come up with, how little time they spend in most cases considering mitigation and how much outcomes depend on the mood they woke up in. You can be very lucky or extremely unjustly...

    Cardboard helmets?

Agreed - I rarely wear one but when I do it's one of these ... and then only for the reflective strips and 2 red flashing lights on the back ... and because the padding inside is comfy ! Proviz Triton Hi Visibility Cycling Helmet Black | JE James Cycles I'm not convinced any of the usual...

    Magicshine battery dying quickly

Got one of those ... don't use it nearly as much as my 1000LM one - it's just about arrestable on flashing mode, hammers your battery on 1-LED mode and the bike mount fit isn't as good as the other one. I think it's great as a super-high powered light for going on dark rides but for everyday use...

Car driver charged with manslaughter over London cyclist death

At the very least, if you have a driving licence you will likely lose it for a significant period of time. For those who depend on a car or motorbike or have others who depend on them having one (I am 3 months in to trying out a life without and I can assure you it is not at all easy in Britain...

    Magicshine battery dying quickly

I think a lot of the hoo ha about the "battery lottery" is overplayed. The link I gave is for a UK supplier who supply a quility light (it's been dropped, abused and generally knocked hell out of and suffered no damage at all). The battery is quality and I recharge it once a week at most. It's...

£3K to spend, what would you recommend?

Depends if you want moderately high road speeds without effort (i.e. >15 to 16mph). If so, you'll likely need to go LPM and why not just get a moped ? If you're fine with 15-17mph assisted riding, there are plenty of bikes which would suit for far less money than your top budget. A Kalkhoff...

Decent shifting systems on crank drive pedelecs

Got a bit of a bee in my bonnet at the moment looking at specs of top-end bikes. The best any of the manufacturers charging £2.5k - £3.5k for their offerings seem to be willing to install is an Alfine C11. Interesting to see Kalkhoff put the superb Rohloff 14 Speedhub into their Endeavour...

Car driver charged with manslaughter over London cyclist death

OK I guess that's probably true. The guy set off a chain of events on account of not looking (or being able to see properly out of his tinted windows) though, which is sadly very typical of people when they are driving cars and surrounded by their cocoon of protection from the world, and someone...

    Approved ebike list?

Looks interesting. But if the motor is 250W it doesn't help much because the onus is on the person fitting the kit to get the bike EN15194 approval for it to be legal under our EU obligations and that would not be economic for a single build. So you would still be left with an illegal bike...
