The dominance of aluminium alloy in todays manufacturing

today I put together a flat pack office chair.... not a particularly expensive one either - and the base of this was also aluminum alloy. Just a couple of years ago these were normally ferrous (cast iron). myself and others mentioned this in connection with bicycle frames, where "fashion" was...

    Salisbury Battery

Although I've not used my salisbury as much since getting the Wisper, I had done over 2600+ miles on it since December 2008. For work journeys it was 14 miles total before each charge, and for journeys to friends 26 miles.

    Non-electric problems

there are regular threads about the conventional bike parts. in fact rims, brakes and wheels need to be more robust than on a normal push bike because they are subjected to far more force than unpowered machines.. most e-bikes use components of the same grade as a working bike of the Emergency...

    wisper 905 mph.

I would say about 18-18.5 mph but I am fairly light although I do also carry two full panniers of stuff at most times. Of course I do not go too fast in inappropriate places, because of the badgers. (I am not kidding here, one ran out straight in front of me a few months ago and I had to make...

NL/DK/DE cycling culture and "image" of various machines?

as a shorter person who rides 700c wheel bikes (which I found to be faster) I hadn't thought of this but I can see why it makes sense for the other end of the height scale. with e-bikes though the mechanical advantage is less of an issue which is why I have gone back to 26" wheeled e-bikes...

NL/DK/DE cycling culture and "image" of various machines?

Well the stereotypical image of a man involved in "biker gangs" is a perpetually angry man with a belief women should be subordinate, a strong belief in the use of physical force to settle disputes, strong "tribal" loyalties, involvement in drugs trade, a unique form of dress and often a beard...

My first entry into the world of E-Bikes

I've also seen aluminium replacing ferrous metals in all manner of objects from larger electrical goods to garden furniture though, and always thought it used to be more expensive? Even a Dawes Horizon stopped being made as steel framed from the 2004 model...

NL/DK/DE cycling culture and "image" of various machines?

I get the impression that In Britain biker gangs are seen as a rather rare and bizzare phenomenon amongst mostly middle aged men and in that age group a comparative minority compared to footy hooligans, bigger drug dealers, armed robbers, serial burglars and domestic bullies.. I've got many...

My first entry into the world of E-Bikes

has some anomaly with metal pricing made aluminium alloy cheaper than steel (presumably forgetting about the costs of all the electric required to produce aluminium?) I've noticed since about 2003/04 that nearly all mid range bikes (including conventional push bikes) are exclusively alloy...

    Which battery to go for?

maybe Russ can do a thread split? I am a mod on a couple of other vbulletin forums and we tend to do this on seriously drifted threads when an important subject comes up..

NL/DK/DE cycling culture and "image" of various machines?

I think its been briefly hinted at on thie forum but I remember it being mentioned that one reason the traditional 700c wheeled utility bike (such as a Kahlkoff) was popular in the Scandinavian/Teutonic nations was as much an image thing as its practicality.. Although mopeds and scooters are...

    Torq 2 with ecrazyman controller

the version I see (on Firefox) contains a drop down box with a direct link to Google Translate, which provided a reasonable translation apart from the word Benzinknattermaschine (some sort of slang term used to describe a petrol powered vehicle) :D

    Which battery to go for?

the problem is there has been absolutely no public comment from the directors or the administrators to the trade media about exactly what has happened, other than the bare minimum London Gazette announcement Its only this forum where the news broke first. Consumers and investors demand much...

    Which battery to go for?

if you go through the history of both they appear to be linked, however the main one in SW England does seem to be still trading. I would find it very surprising if Powabyke does not find a buyer, given that they are a well established brand with substantial awareness and popularity...

    My next bike

I've not counted them but I think a normal wisper has a 48T chainring. A 52T is what you often get on a racer and it will make the bike go a bit faster (if you are fit enough)

    Rough cycling

to be fair, today I saw Mid Suffolk District Council had two chaps in a large lorry who were patrolling the entire length of the Old Norwich Road (from the border with Ipswich BC to Claydon) and picking up every bit of litter....

    Wisper 905SE Sport

is the Wisper derailleur one of these newer "MTB" types where without tension it goes to the largest sprocket rather than the smallest? If so I can easily see how and why the bike would dump the chain if the limit screws were not correctly set.

Me seen that A to B again!

I have to dig out the report somewhere but this is exactly why Singapore's Land Transport Authority clamped down on e-bikes a few years back and reduced the max power to 200W. Singapore's close links with China meant a lot of 48V 1000W Chinese e-bikes ended up being imported and ridden on the...

    Rough cycling

Urban Ipswich is remarkably clean for a British town - where there is tipped litter it is notified on fixmystreet either by citizens or Councillors and soon dealt with, also there are rather a lot of CCTV cameras around  Even when my sister visits from Reading she comments on how much...

    Wisper 905SE Sport

it should be on the tag that was attached to it. This has the serial number of the bike and battery, date of manufacture and checking, the "chop" (what the Chinese call a rubber stamp ) of the first QA team, and the actual name of the head of the second QA team. In 32 years of riding bicycles I...
