Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

I don't know where the 1% of 15000 bikes figure came from. I don't doubt it, but I don't know the source. Is that 15000 Impulse 11 motors or just 15000 Kalkhoff bikes with either a Bosch, Panasonic or Impulse motor? If it takes in all motor variants, the actual number of failures attributed to...

Kalkhoff Impulse 2.0 - any good reviews?

The bikes as a whole are very good. I've ridden a 2015 Pro Connect and it's nice and up to the usual Kalkhoff build standards. Unfortunately, the bike I rode has had one motor fail and the second is well on the way to failing. From what I understand it's the freewheel mechanism between motor...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

A more useful statistic would be the percentage of Impulse 11 motors that have achieved > 3000 trouble free miles. A difficult, if not impossible figure to collate, but there does seem to be an issue with this motor when in high mileage use, such as commuting on a regular basis.

Kalkhoff Impulse 2.0 - any good reviews?

Is this 50 Cycles? They post under so many different names these days. Will the real 50 Cycles take one step forward?

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

I think this Impulse motor can trace its roots back to Daum a German bike / motor manufacturer. I think the company which owns Kalkhoff, probably Derby Cycles, bought the Daum brand, so I suppose it made sense to use / develop that existing motor. It is a shame that the introduction of Bosch...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

From what I know about the Impulse motor, it's the high torque from the motor and reduction gearing combination that is damaging pawls in the chainwheel freewheel. It seems as though the freewheel isn't strong enough to cope with the torque and initially it becomes noisy and then fails with...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

Torque is a totally meaningless figure and people shouldn't read too much into it. It is possible to make the second hand on your wrist watch deliver more torque than any bike, but you wouldn't want a wrist watch motor powering your bike! Because ultimately these bikes are just bicycles with...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

This is an important point. The serial swapping of motors with an inherent design flaw until the warranty runs out is not an acceptable solution. These customers need to be looking towards the european consumer guarantee. This gives provision for customers to claim against manufacturers or...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

I have a Kalkhoff Pro-Connect from 2008. These old models are fitted with the Panasonic motor which is very reliable. I've done over 20000 miles and had a new motor and battery last year. It's a shame they adopted this Impulse motor, because the rest of the newer bike is still equal to, if not...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

My friend's second motor is on the way out. It's following exactly the same route to failure as the first one. There is some more information in this thread http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/kalkhoff-pro-connect-impulse-10-2015-review.19618/page-3 One person is waiting for his third...

What was the best thing (non bike) you bought in 2015?

You're too modest. Now I'm envious of your food and culinary skills. Aaaggghhh, I'm being eaten away by jealousy! Really, it is very nice and what a good way to bring people together, communal cooking (be careful how you say that) and beer.

What was the best thing (non bike) you bought in 2015?

I'm not usually envious, but I will make an exception for this oven. It's lovely. Must be especially rewarding because you made it.

    Ultra HD Television Sets

I take your point and I think the affects of up scaling are more noticeable on larger screen sets, probably 55" and above. Below that size the benefits may become less noticeable. I guess that what is happening with the large screen sets is that the normal picture with a fixed number of pixels...

    Ultra HD Television Sets

Prior to needing a new TV I hadn't paid much regard to UHD, dismissing it as a gimmick like 3D TV. Because there is little UHD programming actually broadcast, I couldn't see the point. That was until I read about and saw upscaling. This is not a gimmick, upscaling technology works well and is...

    Ultra HD Television Sets

I now have my new Samsung TV installed and I'm very pleased with it. The upscaling of HD input is simply stunning. I don't think the build quality of the exterior is up to Sony standards, but the picture is unbelievable. The sound quality is excellent, which is a bonus. However, I must disagree...

Does anyone use a torque wrench on their bike religiously?

That's a good analogy. Of course different materials have a different modulus of elasticity, so whilst a certain "feel" on a 12 mm bolt made from mild steel might be ok, it may push a bolt made from another material into the plastic deformation region. In other words you may weaken bolts made...

Does anyone use a torque wrench on their bike religiously?

I use one when a bolt torque is specified, everything else gets done by feel. On my bike, the Panasonic motor mounting bolt, rear wheel nuts and brake parts are the most critical and I always tighten these with a torque wrench.

    Ultra HD Television Sets

To some extent, I think this is where part the price differential between sets / models lies. Upscaling was an important consideration for me as most, if not all, of my viewing will be upscaled HD broadcast programmes. Some sets make a good job of it, others are terrible.

    Ultra HD Television Sets

After much research and deliberation, I've decided on a Samsung JU7000 series TV set. It's not a curved screen. After looking at them, I really can't see the point, but that's personal taste as I'm sure that they suit some people. I've plumped for a 55" screen which is going to look massive...
