    Brexit, for once some facts.

Still the old argument that I'd dispelled, nothing to do with globalisation. Shared electricity generation is of necessity local within limited areas like Europe with adjacent countries, but even there far more self sufficiency is needed. Years of lazy reliance on France's nuclear surplus...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

A bit of misunderstanding I think, globalisation isn't so much about large units, it's more about dependancies on distant and very different units. China is huge but is turning against the dependancies of globalisation. Europe is also large so can similarly operate an isolationist policy but...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

That is very optimistic. If I try very hard I can just about coax 4 miles from each kWh in warm weather from my current Nissan Leaf, but that takes quite a lot of effort on my part. 3 miles is more like it with gentle driving, so 250 to 330 Wh per mile with very gentle or gentle driving...

Perhaps not though. There's some real new thinking going on and Autarky is now the buzz word, a single word meaning self sufficiency and no dependence on others. It's now China's official policy, Japan is keen on change to that too and of course Trump promoted it for the USA and Biden agrees...

I saw that program earlier in the week. I think those solar car promoters were being very over ambitious though. Australia with their sunshine have for many years been running the solar car challenge. 1,878 miles through the Australian Outback, from Darwin, Northern Territory, to Adelaide...

I'm quite sure this is government driven with the full co-operation of the motor industry. Western governments have long realised that it was a huge mistake to allow the mass population car ownership and the motor industry has long been unable to make any profit from small popular cars. So...

    Battery life

The Mini isn't the only one. All the Nissan Leaf models for more than a decade use flat cells and I believe their partner Renault also do on all the Zoe models for a decade. Many of today's electric buses too. And most are weird shaped too. For example here's the latest Nissan Leaf floor...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

On leaving a social event where he'd been drinking, he said that to a known Tory Jewish journalist who had provoked him, looking to cause political trouble. It was true of course, nothing Germany did between 1933 and 1939 was without Hitler's approval. But of course my merely saying that...

Indeed, Ken was the best politician we never had nationally. But we in London benefited handsomely from his ability and are still grateful for all the lasting things he did while in power here. Probably just as well though, as GLC leader and later London Mayor he was able to be effective in...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Indeed, and we can't say we weren't warned: in April 2014 Ken Livingstone stated his belief that Boris Johnson would soon become leader of the Conservative Party and advised Labour "not to make the mistake of assuming they're dealing with a hardline right-wing ideologue", but to "concentrate...

Agreed, but PR is precisely how that can be achieved, since it cannot entirely keep out all the decent and sensible in the way that the first past the post system can be corrupted to do that. PR brings multiple parties which can only form governments by the consensus that gives influential...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

That Churchillian view shared by Johnson has always been utter bunkum. Their single party favouring "democracy" isn't in any way the best we have. The best we could have available is proportional representation, but neither want that since they and their ilk could no longer always get their...

I joined Bulb on their original way of trading, payment by direct debit a month in advance to give them buying power in the market. But with no mobile signal here a smart meter cannot work so I feed the meter reading once a month on the same set day That may sound vulnerable but in fact it's...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Boris Johnson has said he will stand for re-election as an MP again at the next GE. I'm astonished that the Uxbridge constituency party have said that he consistently delivered, given that he lied to them in order to get them to accept him as their candidate and all his deceit since. .

    Server move

Admin are very frustrated by this yet again, the server move leading to the current problems was thrust upon them without warning. A further change is being planned which will hopefully improve matters, but I'll leave that to Admin to announce when it's due to happen. .

It's actually even worse for me and many others: 1) Ceiling raised by £500 to £3000. 2) No £400 rebate guaranteed. 3) Previous doubling of over 80s OAP Winter Fuel Allowance to £600 no more, back to £300. So £1200 worse off if no more help announced. .

One bit of good news though, the judge in the 29th hearing has ignored the pending judicial review and given the go ahead for Octopus to take over Bulb. So at least that is settled and British Gas appalling service is no longer a risk to us. .

Me too, and it's been an excellent company, so I'm not looking forward to the change to Octopus. Being on direct debit there's no increase at present, though we'll all suffer from the new £500 higher government guarantee after April. The truly maddening thing though is that this only affects...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

Trouble is the cost. The government were forced into a temporary nationalisation of Bulb Energy since they were too big for anyone to bid for it, but in the one year from November 2021 it's cost the taxpayer £6 billion. Octopus have now agreed to take Bulb over but a legal move by the other...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Simple solution. Watch the late evening World Cup highlights programs on BBC 1 or ITV 1. That avoids overloading the peak time and usefully cuts out all the long boring bits when players are just punting the ball around the middle of the pitch while looking for opportunities to cripple each...
