    Battery life

You should read my posts properly, I'm not using an EV to do 400 miles a year. Thirty two years ago when I retired there weren't any EVs, the car that only did 400 miles a year for very many years was a small ic one, kept for just a small number of much longer journeys. It used to stand idle...

Previous car none at all. The new owner is happily driving it. I'm pleased that my largesse is benefitting you, just as it is benefitting the whole planet and the rest of the 8 billion people on it. .

    Battery life

Agreed, but EVs are still very much better than ic vehicles. I say that as someone living in a city where many are being prematurely killed by exhaust pollution and we've had our first recorded death of a child due to that. Forget tyre and brake pollution of EVs, that is proven bunkum: Their...

    Battery life

As someone who cycled over 70 years, including trailer transport, I'm not guilty of not doing my bit. I could bore you to death with all I've done in that way, but suffice it to say that for most of my thirty years of retirement my cars were doing around 400 miles a year, my unassisted...

    Battery life

So what? A start has to made somewhere, the alternative is that we just all give up and wait for all biological life to die out? You are taking an unnecessary gloomy view anyway, not very long ago almost all the world's electrical energy was produced using coal. That it's now down to only 42%...

    Battery life

So we carry on using i.c. vehicles and destroy the planet as quickly as possible? And how are we to get deliveries without vans, increasingly switching to electric? Buses and Trucks too for urban use. We've created a world where we have to carry on using buses, trucks, vans and cars...

Campagnolo releases The Gold corkscrew, and it costs €1,950

I'm not at risk of buying it, never drink anything alcoholic and find wine disgusting and an efficient way of ruining a good meal. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Don't take any notice of that Greek propaganda, it's rubbish. As a tiny country they have a persecution complex over Turkey, always imagining they are under threat from Turkey. Turkey has no ambitions there, if they had they'd have taken Greece very long ago. Turkey's permanent standing army...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The EU made it misguided by snubbing Putin's year 2000 approach about joining the EU, in part due to America's opposition to it. Of course a communist country could not have joined the EU since that is incompatible with the EU's target, but a communist country could have had one of the...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

This is deliberately misleading, never trust the news media. The judge last week did not refuse to hear the pending case. He refused to consider it in reaching his judgemnt that the takeover must go ahead immediately without further delay. The matter is effctively closed now, Octopus are...

Swiss Flyer e bike, voltage unknown?

All your questions answered on my Panasonic web page Tim. Use the section for the New Type Motor and there's also some relevant information on the Old Type Unit strip downpage: http://www.flecc.uk/p/panindex.html .

Swiss Flyer e bike, voltage unknown?

Yes, my advice to the OP is to forget this old Flyer. Panasonic have never made any spares available, their circuit board is fully encapsulated and sealed into the crankcase side so impossible to repair anyway. They were always intended to be repair by replacement only, the units originally...

Swiss Flyer e bike, voltage unknown?

One has to be careful in getting a battery for the Panasonic units. The X series Flyer and some other later Flyer models used a much wider battery which required the unit to have widened cranks arms to clear the battery. .

Swiss Flyer e bike, voltage unknown?

I'm afraid they are "smart" units Neal, refusing to operate without the three connections made by a correct lithium battery. They have five connections, three used during charging, a different three while running. At this age the unit could well be a dud, many failed beyond five years old, but...

Swiss Flyer e bike, voltage unknown?

Other way round, they were 26 volt lithium 7 x 3.7 volt cells = 25.9 volts. 24 volt is a leftover expression from earlier NiMh and NiCad, 20 x 1.2 volts cells. .

Swiss Flyer e bike, voltage unknown?

It's virtually certain to be the 26 volt unit from late 2007 on: Below is a photo of a bike with the 36 volt unit, note the different motor outer casing with Electric Motor Unit printed on it:

    Brexit, for once some facts.

As I said, neither. Europe, especially with the EU, is large enough to be safe, two and a half times Russia's reduced population now there is no USSR. You are stuck with an outdated view of Russia that only existed for part of the 20th century. Russia is on no way a natural ally of China...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

But we don't need any of them, not China or the USA or the current form of Russia. Long term we in Europe can get along fine with self sufficiency, and if we'd listened to post war Germany instead of the USA, Russia today would be the part of Europe it wanted to be instead of aligned to China...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I think it's as much or more the USA which is struggling to come to terms with that truth. As shown by Russia's repeated attempts to be friends with the west after they ended the cold war, but the USA blocking their attempts by hostility and trying to expand NATO when it was no longer needed...
