Whick Kalkhoff would you guys pick - £2k budget ?

The Endeavour has a 350W speed motor which assists to 28mph - it is illegal for road use as a bicycle. The Pro Connect has a standard 250W motor which assists to 15mph - it is legal for road use as a bicycle.

    Bosch battery endurance test

As Stu says it's not a matter of intensive care or King of the Mountain, it's more a matter of how you can cycle on whatever machine you are riding. I would like to think I could make a reasonable fist of it on a decent unassisted bike. It's something I've been thinking about trying for a...

    Bosch battery endurance test

I did another experiment today - tried to see how far I could get on eco, which is the lowest of the Bosch settings. On a moderately hilly ride of 35 miles, the second battery bar went out at just over 30 miles. Three to go, the indicator is fairly linear, although you don't get quite so much...

    Bosch bearings

Every part of the motor should be available to buy direct from Bosch. I don't even expect them to have the inventory in the UK, because a bit can be shipped from Germany in a few days. Part of the problem may be Bosch's secret squirrel attitude to their products - I was surprised to see they...

Wouldn't want to be hit on the head when he discards a water bottle - it's probably got a 2kg battery inside.

What do you carry in your repair kit?

A puncture is by far the most likely breakdown, so I carry a spare tube, scab patches, pump, and an aerosol of that repair/inflator goo which probably wouldn't work. A multi-tool for other minor fettling, for everything else there's always Mastercard.

    Presta valves

If you go for Schrader, worth getting tubes with an external thread and locking ring. This is because to inflate Schrader, you need to press down on the valve. This can be fiddly if the valve has no locking collar because it will tend to disappear into the tyre.

What maintenance do you do on you bike?

Chainsaw oil in 500ml bottles is significantly cheaper than the tiny pots sold by bike shops. Particularly good for those who like to use plenty of oil on their chain. I don't, and am still using a large aerosol I bought several years ago for my last motorbike.

What maintenance do you do on you bike?

Checking fixings for tightness regularly is flavour of the month for me after my recent wheel wobble. I wipe the chain after every ride and lube about every sixth ride.

    Thinking of getting bike

Worth leaning on woosh for a discount off two bikes. Or if you fancy something different for one of you, the Ezee Sprint Primo is good value and said to pull well: http://www.cyclezee.com/ezee-sprint-primo.html Or maybe there would do you a deal on a couple of those.

Fat Guy Needs a Folding Conversion on Train Commute!

Tommy, I think you are still trying to push water up hill. There is no such thing as a 'lightweight' conversion. A Brommie with a motor and controller will weigh about 15kg. Weight can be saved by a smaller battery, but 20 miles a day means you need 8-10ah, so that's another three or four...

    E-Bike Ready Tyres?

Looks like the '50' on the tyre in the OP's pic refers to 50kph, so the tyres are designed for naughty S-pedelecs. From the Schwalbe website: "E-Bike Ready. The new Marathon has been designed for use on all types of E-bikes. The following sizes bear the ECE75 mark, suitable for use on faster...

    Presta valves

I'm sure Flecc is right, Kalkhoff use the Woods valve which is a dreadful thing. It's all but impossible to check the tyre pressure, although I understand a Presta pump will usually inflate the tube if you try hard enough.

It broke, but at least they fixed it

I refer to the Shimano Alfine 11 hub on my Rose/Bosch bike. Regular readers will know I've been getting false neutrals on the hub. This got worse, and the box rarely wanted to go into second gear at all. Things came to a head for me when I was left in neutral in heavy traffic on the level...
