    Our perfect combination

Agreed, a lanyard on single wheel tag along would do more harm than good.

A shop near me is offering ready-converted Cyclotricity Trek mountain bikes. Looked quite a neat job to me, although the pics don't show the sheaf of cables cable-tied to the other side of the down tube...

Could be good with a hub motor

This bottom bracket gearbox looks good. Wider range than even a mountain triple, all 18 gears evenly spaced, and a simple one to 18 twist grip to change. What's not to like? The price, probably, and I expect there is a weight penalty. Although I saw an ordinary hybrid with this gearbox with...

Well, I have just gone and done it - Kalkhoff BS10 ordered today

I have some sympathy with 'H', assuming he was telling the truth. To get the knackered moped to the garage, he would had to have taxed and insured it, and worn a helmet - to pedal at walking pace or even push it. If it needed an MoT, he would also have to have made a pre-booking for the test...

Woosh Big Bear owners in Manchester

Similar experience here, so I'm with Gringo. At the very least, don't buy one without trying it. Even that's not foolproof - it took me a few months to conclude the bike I had was just a little too big.

Which is why ordinary cyclists cannot be done for speeding or careless 'driving'. All those charges contain the phrase 'you drove a mechanically propelled vehicle'. There is the ancient offence of 'wanton and furious riding' which has occasionally been applied to cyclists who have been riding...

    Our perfect combination

Agreed. The one I saw had two pram wheels which enabled it to roll on with the tow bar bouncing off the road. I would put money on the cause being a cheap and nasty bodged hitch, poor installation, poor maintenance or all three.

    Our perfect combination

I witnessed a tag-along part company with the bike. It was down a hill and the tag-along appeared to overtake the bike before careering into a ditch. Rather funny in a slapstick way. Lots of tears from the child, but no harm done by the look of it.

    Wobbling??

Yes, I like old Saggers. He's been known to pull wheelies across the finishing line. Road racing is a tiny minority sport and desperately dull to 99.9 per cent of the population. It needs characters like Sagan to give it some oomph.

    Wobbling??

Something in that, there's a video of Peter Sagan riding his bike on to the bonnet and then roof of his support car to park it on the rack.

    Best choice?

The Trek is a sound bike, but I believe a 2011 one will have a 24v motor, which is not as powerful as more modern 36v bikes. The specs are not immediately apparent online, but others may be able to confirm. Smallish battery, too, fine for a 12 mile round trip, but you mention a more arduous...

The Neo Xtrem has reached it's limit

Thought it was more, but weighing them in my hands again it clearly isn't. Reminds me of a publican friend. When doing the banking, he can tell by feel if a £500 wad of fivers is one short.

    Hello, i'm a new eBiker

I would be very wary of relying on indicators. They are an unusual non-standard item and motorists may not recognise their meaning. I stick my arm out which, linked to a classic cyclists' backwards glance and wobble, leaves a car driver in no doubt I'm about to do something, even if it's only...

The Neo Xtrem has reached it's limit

No need for all that. I've just dropped both of them off the top of a tall building at the same time to see which hit the ground first. I'm sure it was the heavier one.

The Neo Xtrem has reached it's limit

The smaller capacity battery feels a bit lighter to me - I was immediately struck by that in shop - although I don't have anything here to weigh it on.

The Neo Xtrem has reached it's limit

Opposite of 'cock up' is one theory, but as with a lot of slang it's impossible to pin down the precise origin.

The Neo Xtrem has reached it's limit

Cock-on job, Eddie. I agree reducing the bike's weight by a kilo or two is worth having. On the rare occasions I take the Rose out without panniers, flask, d-lock etc, I notice it's a much nicer ride. The new bike is just under 20 kilos and I've already worked out I prefer the ride with the...

I suppose KTM Col will be quite pleased at having got two rivals at each other's throats. To me, all three of them don't emerge from this thread with much credit.

    gold rated lock

Fear of theft does limit what I would like to do by ebike. Taking the bus is a bit extreme, but I do take the car for some journeys that I would otherwise prefer to do by bike.
