    My new bike

Needless to say, I agree - although only as of last week. The steering on the AVE tends slightly towards Brompton twitchiness. Nice and direct, but many riders would prefer the steering of a bigger wheeled bike. Anyone seeking outright speed is also probably best advised to stick to big - and...

    Bit of a bummer.....

I dip in and out of F1 and haven't dipped in yet this season. But it seems the 5Live trailers I've heard about 'real racing again' are at best exaggerated and at worst dishonest. Semi-serious point here, Sky has been much criticised for portraying every football match it covers as a classic...

    My new bike

The smaller bike is much handier on the road and particularly trail. One of my major ebiking annoyances is the various obstructions on cycle paths. Pushing/lifting the AVE through these is far easier than with a full-size bike. I also regularly encounter island pedestrian crossings. These...

    Dave from Dorset

Dave, Battery range is very much a piece of string question, but 15-20 miles from 9ah is not very much. Around three or four miles per ah is realistic starting point, giving a range for your battery of closer to 30 miles. Modern batteries seem to give their full range almost from new, but you...

    My new bike

I have a static caravan in North Yorkshire, one of the smaller bikes will take up residence there for the summer. There may be some fleet rationalisation at some point, but there's no rush.

    E-bikes and Eurotunnel

Ebike batteries seem to give transport people the vapours, but I suppose what Euro Tunnel don't know about won't hurt them. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? It explodes, collapses the tunnel and kills thousands.

    My new bike

Thanks, Flecc. The bike has already attracted some positive comments on the trail. One guy liked the unusual cross-section of the cross bar and down tube.

    My new bike

Same saddle with a cheapo gel cover. The supplied one is a strange choice for a sit-up-and-beg bike. Longest ride was today at 20 miles. No comfort problems that I can detect, so I will leave it as is for now.

    Alien bikes - ceased trading

That applied to me with the AVE I've just bought. The shop - C H White in Malmesbury, Wilts - offered me a test ride. As an experience ebiker, I knew within about 100 yards the bike was a good 'un and suitable for my requirements. Didn't want to appear too keen, though, so I went for a tootle...

    My new bike

Thanks, Martin. So far so good, everything works as it should. The ride is much better than I expected - more big bike than little bike - partly due to the balloon tyres. It still accelerates like a small wheeled bike, noticeably quicker than the Rose. As it has derailleur gears, the top...

    My new bike

No, new, although it is the old model. Good for me because all my Bosch batteries are the same.

    No, but similar-ish money.

    My new bike

By different, I mean a bit different to my other two, but it's conventional in other respects.

In Danger of going over to Dark Side

My brother had something similar when we were kids. I think his was badged just as an "Eagle". Very sound bikes, as you know. We all had what we called in those days "racers". The Eagle was the nicest and fastest, leading to sibling squabbles over who could ride it.

    My new bike

A little bit different to, rather than better than, the others.

And then there was three. I am going out for my first proper play on the new toy shortly and will get some pics. In the meantime, perhaps members would like to speculate on what I have bought. All guesses - even serious ones - welcome.

    Alien bikes - ceased trading

Parallel there with the executive car market, where a lot of sales are made without a test drive. Buyers of supermini hatchbacks, however, go to the nth degree of price, spec, warranty, how round the tyres are, etc, etc,
