They aren't being wasted - they are being used to demonstrate to the world how the UK treats refugees. Put them into Napier, they're bound to get Covid-19 and really, really suffer. BTW Pembrokeshire council has put a bill into the Home Office for excess costs due to their similar use of...

Some supremely hollow words: The UK foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, said: “We welcome the removal of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s ankle tag, but Iran’s continued treatment of her is intolerable. She must be allowed to return to the UK as soon as possible to be reunited with her family.”

Where I live has had among the lowest infection rates in the entire UK. And some of the highest vaccination rates/acceptance. Seems bizarre - but makes more sense as you think further. :)

And it is much less than: Downing Street has spent more than £2.6 million on refurbishments to hold White House-style press briefings, it has emerged. The cost of the renovations for the televised question and answer sessions with journalists was revealed as Boris Johnson faces pressure over...

Agreed about the relative importance. £200,000 seems a lot of money to spend on a four bedroom flat, especially one that is only being occupied temporarily. If Johnson stopped being PM - for any reason - but had not paid this off, I can't see many of the richer element being that keen to...

Wiki is quite helpful up to 1946: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination_Act Not sure what has happened since. Though I am under the impression that there are certain circumstances/groups for whom vaccinations can be compulsory. For example, armed forces, some under court protection, and...

We saw reports on Tuesday they had narrowed down the sixth case of "Brazilian" Covid-19 to 379 households. They have now found the person - which is good. But a search rate of about 95 a day does not appear to indicate a major concentration of resources and speed of identification. Of course...

Yet again, the NHS 1% pay rise issue is for England. Wales, at least, is thinking otherwise: Ministers will not try to cap any pay rise for Welsh NHS staff in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Wales' health minister has said. The UK government has faced a backlash after saying a pay rise...

I see Cyprus will be allowing us in if we have had both vaccinations. From 1 May. Which fails as we have no proof and many will not get their second by the time they might wish to go. I have just had my first and told it would be 12 weeks before my second.

I hate the phrase "no strong evidence". At one level it is simple enough. But it could apply when there is absolutely no evidence at all. Or when there is a vast quantity of evidence that has not been deemed "strong". Two very different cases.
