    Brexit, for once some facts.

Indeed, the usual Tory smear tactics. Diane isn't as sharp as she once was, we all get older, but as Woosh has remarked about her in her earlier career, she has an excellent political brain. Certainly far better than Johnson's, so she's easily capable of leading the party. It's not all about...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

If Boris Johnson is fit to be our Prime Minister, by the same token Diane Abbot very easily qualifies to lead the Labour party. And Diane has held her Labour parliamentary seat continuously for 35 years with her constituents refusing to hear a word against her. Hardly something that could...

    Tarred with the same brush

A tiny number have been registered in the UK and are legal Andy, but since you mention a small number plate, that doesn't conform since they have to have a full size motor cycle number plate. A number of modifications are necessary to register and get type approval as a moped, including having...

    Tarred with the same brush

The Fire Brigades are as bad as RoSPA, seeing disaster everywhere with little justification. I'm happy with banning e-scooters though, not for battery fire reasons but because they are intrinsically unstable and dangerous on the roads at all times. The government proposes that they will take...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

He's 70 this year. The one in my e-car providing all my air-con is brilliant, uses far less current than the radiant system of the early models. Heats the car in a minute or two on a very cold day using a quick burst of high current and then keeps me at 22 degrees C using just under 200...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

My garage can't take it and my e-car, but if ever I lose my driving licence due to old age deficiencies, I'll be in the market for it or similar, since it will enable me to get out and about in the countryside as usual. And when local it would earn respect from the teenagers on their little...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

Here's my choice for e-scooting, Hells Angels style. It's actually an all-terrain mobility scooter with 4mph pavement mode and 8 mph on road mode, but also a 16mph Off Road mode which could be made legal by fully registering it since it has all the road gear like proper lights, mirrors etc...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

As said, very little they publish seems credible to me. I wouldn't be surprised to learn they used Halfords sales figure as a guide to guestimating the quoted 730,000 from other sources, since Halfords have done so well with them while lobbying hard for legalisation. .

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

RoSPA have never had a credible reputation of any value. They are an organisation neurotically seeing imaginary danger in almost every aspect of life. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I understand your suspicions, but that's not really the case since they imagined themselves to be capable business people. They set up their own building firm calleed Brick by Brick (!) to build homes, but the first job they gave it was the refurbishment of the Fairfied Halls, our arts centre...

    Close passing fines.

Thanks Neal, that makes it much clearer than the still photo. That was clearly a very dangerous speed when that close. However my remarks on cyclists following through still stand. Anyone driving from the other direction in their own lane has the right of way. Someone pulling out to pass...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The madness of voting against the government in a local election has really shown here in Croydon. The Labour councillors who bankrupted our council and richly deserve to be evicted have been returned to power by just one seat by the national Labour swing: Labour 34 councillors, (minus 7)...

    Panniers for grocery shopping.

My panniers were Dutch, having removable stiffening inserts to keep their shape and avoid crushing soft groceries:

    Brexit, for once some facts.

That 's what Sainsburys call Smartshop, so there's no difference between ours, not very popular in both cases. To scan with a mobile just means downloading their app. I used to use staffed checkouts at a more personal local Sainburys where I knew all the staff, so much so that one Indian...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

That seems similar to mine, queues at the popular self-checkout and at tills. By scanner checkouts do you mean so called Smart Shop using the store gadgets or smartphones, in which case mine is the same too, unpopular. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Agreed, they are often filthy. On your main point, there's no doubt that basket self checkout, which is very common in major towns and cities where supermarkets are often larger, is very popular. In the large Sainsburys I use there's 20 self checkout stations in that compound, 10 Cash or Card...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Sainsburys variation is replacing many of the roomy, larger area wire baskets with smaller capacity plastic ones. The wire baskets do suffer lots of damage, buckled handles or the handle end loops opening and seizing at the pivot point, so that may be one reason. Another could be that they...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The population really aren't quite that stupid. They don't believe what parties claim and enough like me know the difference between a local and a national vote. They also hear the pundits pointing these out and what the vote really meant, a hung parliament if translated to a national...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Agreed, but why should I care when I know that they know that won't be true at national level? That is already the case since the outcome is hardly good for them or anyone, indicating a hung parliament. That's what happens when people stupidly vote a national preference in a local election. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I strongly disagree, I've always voted on local issues only in local elections and that's true of many others. That's why for decades I haven't voted Tory in General Elections or at GLC and London Mayoral level but always voted Tory in the local Borough Council elections. My local votes are...
