    Multifuel woodburner stove?

I installed a Vermont Castings Intrepid last year. I went for that model because you can load the fuel through a top hatch as well as the front doors which means that virtually no ash or dust escapes. They do a Multi-fuel model, which I installed, but I'm not sure if they do one with a boiler...

    Cycle schemes

Are cycle schemes such as Cycle to Work, Cycle Scheme etc worth getting involved in these days? I used Cycle Scheme to buy a bike a bike 5 years ago and it saved me a worthwhile sum. These days, I understand that the tax rules have been, "clarified" with the net result that these schemes don't...

From 35T to 41T chainwheel on my Kalkhoff Agattu

Put a larger sprocket on the rear wheel to lower the overall gearing.

    Consequence of sprocket size change?

Firstly, you will have a lower pedal cadence for any given road speed in each gear. That is the effect of switching from a 35 to 41 tooth chain wheel. The increase in motor sprocket size means that it will rotate more slowly for any given road speed in each gear than it did when you used an 11...

How long should my chainwheel last?

When I removed the one on my bike, I used a standard extractor tool.

How long should my chainwheel last?

I can see the point that you are making flecc, but the wear on the trailing edge of the chain wheel teeth must be minimal / non-existent due to the towing effect. The motor only has to overcome the friction in the chain wheel freewheel, which must be virtually nothing and certainly not enough...

How long should my chainwheel last?

Your point about the chain wheel not being a traditional idler due to its placement on the tension side makes sense. I can also see how the chain tension induced by the motor will cause the chain to wrap more tightly around the chain wheel than if the bike were unassisted. Looking at...

    Tesco Folding Hopper 20" e-Bike

Because this bike is from the Tesco product range, do they specify the motor output in horse power?

    Aaaargh!!!!! Another Kalkhoff question

My experience with the Panasonic battery is that you gradually lose range as the battery ages. It can be difficult to detect how much the battery has deteriorated, especially if you ride a wide variety of different routes, because consumption per mile will vary from route to route. I ride the...

How long should my chainwheel last?

Thank you for posting that explanation James. I knew that the chain wheel and sprockets had been slimmed down, but not by that much. I've just checked my spare chain wheel and it seems to be one of the 3 mm ones. I've not got spare motor or rear sprockets, so it will be interesting to see how...

How long should my chainwheel last?

What do you use for a lubricant? On your chain, I hasten to add. The wear on the non pressure side of the teeth is strange. I know the motor sprocket on these Panasonic units tends to pull the chain around the chain wheel, but due to the torque sensor, the contact pressure should always be on...

How long should my chainwheel last?

My Pro Connect is a 2008 model which doesn't have as higher level of assistance as the later Panasonic units and has 8 Speed hub gears. My chain, chain wheel, motor and rear sprockets lasted for around 9 to 10 thousand miles, I can't remember the exact figure, but it certainly over 9000 miles.

Adjustment of Magura hydraulic brakes on Kalkhoff Agattu

Absolutely correct, there is a balance tube which connects one slave cylinder to the other, so the pressure in each one should be the same. The pressure is the same in each slave cylinder, it has to be because they are connected together by the balance tube. This is exactly what I am...

Adjustment of Magura hydraulic brakes on Kalkhoff Agattu

I think that both cylinders are supposed to move, otherwise there would be no point in fitting the TPA to the brake lever, you may as well adjust both sides at the same time if you have to always manually adjust one side. I'll give your suggestion a go and see what happens.

Adjustment of Magura hydraulic brakes on Kalkhoff Agattu

Thanks for taking the time to write a list of instructions danfoto, I appreciate it. I have been following your instructions to the letter, but at (3) instead of pushing the blocks hard up against the rim and then squeezing the lever to push them off slightly, I have inserted a 2 mm strip...

Adjustment of Magura hydraulic brakes on Kalkhoff Agattu

Is, "the top allen screw of the EVO2 adaptor" the one(s) shown on Page 7 Paragraph 11, of the PDF which you linked to? The ones with 6Nm arrows pointing at them? If they are, I believe they act like a clamp and fix the slave cylinders in position once that you have positioned them. I have...

    Pro Connect Upgrade

To be honest James, I hadn't considered Magura disc brakes (didn't realise they made them) only looking briefly at Shimano and Hope. I am tempted by Hope because I believe that they are manufactured in the UK and they seem to be well regarded. Having said that, Magura customer service has been...

    Pro Connect Upgrade

Thanks for the link to the Big Apple tyres Jonah, that seems to be a good price. James I can see from your photograph what you mean regarding making your bike more akin to the Agattu. The extra bit of height, swept bars and air sprung front wheel must make for a relaxed ride. I'm leaning more...
