    Tandem?

I reckon a Bernds tandem will fit a five-year-old stoker - it has small wheels and lots of saddle height adjustment. There is also an electric option, an Ansmann hub 'engine' on either front a rear. What probably kills it is the price. There a are more options than you can shake an e-stick...

    Tyre Experts

I would be annoyed, too. They look like tyres designed for road/cycle paths. Some ebikes are supplied with mountain bike tyres which do not like road use - the sidewall near the rim is where they tend to fail.

Fair bit of wear on the tyre, so rubber perishing may have played a part. Keeping the tyres well inflated is a good plan, but I would run 10-15psi under maximum.

    Hi & advice needed :)

Dave is spot on about the gears. I have a six speed Brompton with a Nano conversion. On some rides I hardly change gear at all, so three would be plenty. As you intend to 'do some work' that will apply in your case. Buying a second bike looks to be your best bet. As you've worked...

    Electric car charging point fiasco

Most of us rarely do journeys of more than 100 miles, so there is no need for a second car. Such a journey in an e-car would need some thinking about, but is entirely doable on an occasional basis. I have about 400 miles of diesel in the car presently parked in my back yard. That fuel will be...

    Electric car charging point fiasco

I live in a terraced house, and like thousands of such properties in the North East, it has an enclosed rear yard big enough for several cars. Someone will mention flats in a minute....

    Electric car charging point fiasco

The take-up of e-cars remains to be seen. There are plenty of barriers, although the charging point one looks more or less solved. High purchase price - even with a £5K grant - is a problem, but prices are coming down. There's a small Renault which is 'only' £14K. Battery life is not a...

    Electric car charging point fiasco

The market for electric cars is in its very early stages in the UK. No one would buy one if they looked at the map and there were only a handful of charging points, none of which were ever free. Inevitably, the infrastructure must lead the way, so it will look under-used to start with.

Haibike Trekking eBikes finally come to the UK for 2014!..

Like most Haibikes, the trekking ones look a bit expensive. My Rose is a very similar spec and cost £2,500, but that includes an Alfine 11 hub gear. Seems to me prices are, if anything, a bit lower this year for high-spec ebikes, so the Haibike trekking would look fairer value at £2,000 or...

    Electric car charging point fiasco

The public points tend to be high power ones aimed at a quick top up. Hence they are found in supermarket/shopping centre car parks and increasingly, motorway service areas. The idea is to charge for an hour or so, thus you wouldn't expect to see an electric car camped out on one all day. It...

    Cyclerules site

This push cyclist who injured a child has pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding - standard charge applicable to anyone who injures another person. It appears he may have originally been charged with the arcane offence of wanton and furious cycling, but the prosecution went for unlawful wounding...

    the bizzareness of plod

Everyone calls them clipless. The usage started because the new 'clip in' pedals replaced those which had toe clips. I guess 'clipless' is a bit snappier than 'toe clip less'.

    Electric bike advice please

There aren't many high quality, proper mountain ebikes. Riese and Muller make a wide range of bikes, including full sussers, but they are more aimed at the trekking (very light off-road) market. All of which could be good news for Martin. You need to watch him, by the way, he'd sell a Haibike...

    the bizzareness of plod

Can't agree - I've often seen them, perhaps more often 'in the mirror' in the car. That would make sense because the front of your front is less likely to obscure the reflector than the heel. The position of roadies is less clear, clipless pedals don't have reflectors. I think the theory is...
