Hi to all ebikers out there..

Modern bikes seem harder to ride no-handed. Used to do it all the time as a child. I can remember we set ourselves a challenge of riding no-handed to school - more than two miles. Must be down to geometry as d8 says. I've seen roadies ride no-handed.

    Front light

A neater alternative - no separate battery pack - is something like this from Lezyne. Charges from USB, which can be handy if you commute and have a computer on your desk. Clip on mount is easy to remove for security, or to put on another bike, or to use as a hand torch. And most importantly...

    The law is an Ass

I sometimes walk on a shared path which I usually cycle on. On foot I find myself absent-mindedly wandering into the cycle lane. I try to bear that in mind when I cycle up to a pedestrian who is blocking my way.

    Batteries and Frosty Rides

The bars on my Bosch battery have been dropping a bit faster in the cold weather, although using dongle power will have something to do with it. No worries, as I don't ride so far when it's cold, but I suspect my range would be 30+ miles instead of 40+ in warmer weather.

More news on Shimano's STEPS e-bike systems

Years ago, the Japanese were well known for taking European products and all but copying them, albeit with some improvements. Something like that may be happening here. Looks very similar to the new Bosch system, and I see Shimano are going with a large central display and thumb remote. What...

Hi from Ledbury:0) Help please need advice

newebiker, I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but your proposed spec is just not doable for the reasons already stated. There is a wide and varied spectrum of knowledge on here, the fact that all replies say the same thing ought to tell you something. You have displayed a very poor...

A working dongle - at last

I've now done some miles with the dongle and remain very pleased with it. No error messages, the only electronic indication it's working is when the Bosch speedo goes to one third mph. There is a useful amount of assistance from 15mph to about 22 or 23mph, although this being a Bosch bike you...

Raleigh Velo Trail - oh dear

I had a brief ride on a new Raleigh Velo Trail which I thought might be recommendable as a budget buy. But the assistance system let it down badly, 'unrefined' is one word that springs to mind, 'jerky' is another I could live with the modest amount of poke, but the way the power was delivered...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

No worries, just gizza go on your E-Rider when you get it.

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

I like bar ends, don't use them a lot, but they are good for a change of position mid-ride. Also handy for manhandling the bike when you are off it. Lots of makes, Ergon are reckoned to be better than most. What I like even more is the palm-shaped grips that come with them. Ergon GP2...

    Electric Transport-Charging Times-what am I missing.

Wasn't there a very fast charging battery from, I think, Toshiba? Something rings a bell about it being fitted to a Schwinn ebike. Again from memory, it charged OK but didn't perform well on the bike.

Discussing the Option and Ideas to safer cycling.

Flecc is spot on. Keeping out of the left side danger zone is no more than common sense. Trouble is many roadies dismiss it as victim blaming.

    Electric bike advice please

Jamie, Haibikes are nice, but as you say, a lot of money. I have the same Bosch motor on a trekking bike and I think you will find it a bit weedy for trail work. Particularly true if you see it as coming down from your motorbike experience, rather than going up from your pedal bike...

    Electric Transport-Charging Times-what am I missing.

I don't understand the physics, but one of the good things about my Bosch bike is it charges in three or four hours. My Brompton Nano seems to take an age.

    Big thank you

A free seatpost is a reasonable gesture. But it would have been much better had they sold you the correct sized bike in the first place.

Must have spent so much on the bike he can no longer afford to shop at Sainsbury's.

No need for the lecturing tone. If it's so easy to pack so much battery power into such a small space, why isn't everyone doing it?

Bosch dongle - free to good home

Countryman, Have the dongle by all means - ping me an address to send it to. If you can extract some info out of it which could be useful to other members, fine, but don't feel under any pressure to do so. I think you are right about ebike - and ordinary bike - folk being generally nice guys...

Optibike SIMBB 29C now available for pre order

It's hard to judge the volume of a complex shape, but the size of the lump around the bottom bracket looks little bigger than an inverted Bosch motor. I find it hard to believe that shape can also contain a 13ah battery, given the size of the 11ah battery on my Bosch bike, or the size of...
