    eBrompton Build

I had similar consideration a couple of years ago. I rode my Brompton with a Bosch 36V tool battery for a year then went for 10S2P with 27100 cells, 36V 10AH. It's a perfect compromise for keeping the folding mechanism like it is, weight, range, hill climbing and charging frequency.

Following on from my introduction to this forum I have questions

I've still got a few bikes I bought 20-30 years ago in my shed. The price is not important in this regard. All it takes is to keep the tyres inflated, the mud off of the bike, the bike in the shed and give them a little grease now and then. It's really nothing much. I have never taken any bike...

    Hydraulic Brake Installation

You don't have to fit the hydraulic brake sensors if you don't use the throttle. They are only needed for when the throttle gets jammed during use. It's not difficult to fit on the M2. First, you plug in the hydraulic brake sensor without the magnet. The sensor is thus active, you should see...

Woosh Mxus xf08c cassette bearings failure

The xf08c is very easy to open. You only need a screwdriver to remove the 6 screws then tap gently on the side of the lid to pop it out. The freehub body can be dismantled for servicing but I would recommend a replacement. We keep spare lids. Please email support@wooshbikes.co.uk, Andy will help...

    Flit 16

It was elinx and blacklite who attracted me to the problem of demagnetisation. We don't pay attention to issues of temperatures higher than 75C when permanent magnets started to lose their magnetism. That reminded me of the time when 200W+ loudspeakers like those from JBL cost a small fortune...

    Flit 16

I used to build large PA speakers back in the 70s and burned a few coils after feeding too much power into them. Back then, I just rebuilt the coils but I can't see anyone redoing the coils of a motor.

    GIN X

I reckon it is sustenable but you would be limited to basic models. Lots of them operate on those lines. Chinese factories start with very good value basic models for around $500-$600 and offer to upgrade components, batteries, motors, forks, brakes, rack, propstands, lights, bells etc. The...

    GIN X

They are on trustpilot and a UK company so you can lookup if you like. Their bike is good value for money. You should very much pay attention to support arrangements when buying a factory built bike. Unlike adding a kit to your own bike, like Andybike said, the mechanical bike can be built with...

Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

Very sorry, I evidently need new glasses. Your bike is in excellent condition. If you want to convert it, I would suggest an XF08C rear hub which looks very discret or a middle motor like TSDZ2 which has excellent natural ride feel. Email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk if you are interested.

Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

It's not the first time that torque figures are discussed. Saneagle has a clear view on this. I think although it's complicated, it is better to understand the physics (tyre radius, weight, gradient, speed, mass etc) so you can make better decisions. I don't know which motor the Estarli uses so...

Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

As saneagle said, torque numbers are meaningless. You need to specify a host of other details like power. yield and RPM. Manufacturers supply test charts to help with selecting the best motor for the job. I usually look for maximum torque for 180rpm at around 500w for my 26 and 700c bikes to run...

Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

It's just a bit difficult to get your head around the numbers. For hub motors, the torque is measured at the wheel so the tyre diameter is important, the resulting climbing force at the point of contact with the road is inversely proportional to the radius of the tyre. Smaller wheels correspond...

Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

he's willing to convert a bike. He can start with a £500 bike, add £600 for a decent road legal kit, he'll get a bike that can winch him up more or less any big hill while pedaling as much or as little as he likes. If he's happy with a second hand donor bike, he can get a very decent...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

it was a pretty forgettable episode of BBCQT. Prof John Curtice decided to make up the audience with 70% brexit and still brexit, 20% brexit now regret + 10% brexit now undecided. The first subject was how much brexit has to do with the cost of living. The remainer camp is represented by...
