25 electric bike reviews since july 2010

I wonder how useful an early review of a bike is. The initial experience of owning an Ebike can be quite a revelation and this may distort the owners focus away from some of the weaker points. I think there may be a temptation to promote the wonderful new bike as the best thing ever. I tend to...

    Decathlon ebike

It's the same capacity as the Panasonic battery and £160 cheaper. I'd say that is good, rather than reasonable.

    Decathlon ebike

When taken in comparison with some of the more well known brands, that battery price is good. Of course we know nothing of the battery quality or how long it is guaranteed for. 10Ah may be a bit on the low side for use with a hub motor bike. How far do you need it to go between charges?

    Cycle to work scheme?

There is still support for the scheme, but now that the tax rules are being implemented properly, ie the buy back price has increased by 500%, it isn't worth doing anymore. There are no savings to be gained. Because the purchase price is usually the full price when buying through a scheme, you...

Can someone clear the law thing with e-bikes.

I think all of the above reflects what is currently happening. Ebikes are very much a minority vehicle, the public at large know very little about them and no one is really bothered. Whilst ever the above circumstances exist, the Police will not actively be on the lookout for illegal Ebikes...

    Cycle to work scheme?

Yes, "they" are actually HMRC who have supposedly clarified the rules regarding the final valuation of the bike after the hire period. Before this clarification, it worked well. The punter received a discount on the bike, bicycle dealers probably noticed a bit of a boost in sales and more...

    Cycle to work scheme?

Our organisation has all but stopped the scheme because of this. When it was first launched in 2008, it was only intended to last 3 months, but it proved so popular, they kept it running. The new higher final valuations have all but wiped out any benefits to using the scheme. It's virtually dead...

To all newbies -get a mirror!

And any cyclist riding with a mirror and a helmet but no high vis clothing or decent lights also have their priorities all wrong :)

To all newbies -get a mirror!

I agree with this as well. The mirror that I have added to my bike is the most important safety feature.

    Lithium..... really hot batteries

I charge and keep my battery in the garage. The charger is usually stood on a concrete floor next to a concrete wall. The only problem is that the battery is sharing garage space with nearly 500 litres of LPG, a big wicker basket and a few hundred square metres of nylon fabric. I'd rather that...

Well i took the plunge - finally!!

When considering taking employment with any organisation, the first enquiry you should make is whether they have a Personnel Department or a Human Resources (HR) Department. If it is the latter, on no account must you work for them. The HR Department will be stuffed full of idiots who spend all...

    Ride of my Life

On BBC4 now. A documentary about bikes. Not electric but quite interesting.

    Haibike

My, "overworked" 9 tooth Panasonic drive sprocket has over 7000 miles on it and is still working fine. The battery and motor combination has proved flawless after nearly 3 years of use. This is probably because the Panasonic system has evolved over a number of years. I'm sure that there were...

    Emotion Sport Max +

50 Cycles are selling 2010 Pro C models for £1500 with a two year warranty HERE. The Pro C is a very good commuter bike, I've had one for nearly 3 years and used it daily without hardly any problems. Its a nice bike and £500 cheaper than the Disk The only two minus points for you on this...

    Pro Connect Disc gearing?

It can, sort of. By treating the higher gears (the ones which cause the motor to assist above 15 mph) as, "off road" gears, the bike could remain legal, I think. It depends on the wording of the law. If the law says, "capable of assisting" then more than likely ilegal. If it says, "does not...

    I have..........

Which building? Why have you left it? Is it on fire? I'm confused. I don't understand. What's happening?

    Aldi Cycle Gear Heads Up

Thanks John, I hadn't spotted this. Aldi gear is always worth a look, it's generally good quality. I'm not going to be able to get there until the early evening, by which time I imagine the EBay-ists will have swarmed. With a bit of look though, they may still have some of those Hamster Balls...

Do you cycle in the rain and......

On the outside, I wear a Gore-Tex lightweight top, cheap waterproof over trousers, SealSkinz gloves and socks, a thin skull-cap, cycling helmet and clear wind deflector glasses. Underneath, I wear cycling clothing appropriate for the daily temperature. Once you get your head down and get...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect fail

Hopefully you won't have any problems then and will be back on the road soon.

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect fail

I can't really offer you any advice which is going to enable you to fix the bike blather. The lights flashing in the way you describe can indicate a system fault, usually the torque sensor. This usually occurs if you start pedalling too soon after switching on. I assume you aren't doing that...
