Take a recording of any PMQ since its inception and remove all the non-sequiturs. The resulting recording would be akin to a performance of John Cage's 4'33" . .

A bit like Ed Miliband and his bacon sandwich. Memo to would be PMs, avoid any food when near cameras. .

Beautiful painting OG, especially given such trying circumstances. It's a talent my older brother had but which isn't present in me. Your last sentence concurs with my view, that the worst thing that ever happens to us is being born alive. That is when all the trouble starts. .

Public opinion isn't the law. As I acknowledged, he might have to go for political reasons, but it's far from true yet that he will be found guilty of a crime as many in here seemed to think. It will be a pity if he is forced out, since his replacement will have over two years to patch things...

Yes, definitely a planned hatchet job. Ironically the newspapers have played a large part, but if he does go he'll probably end up writing for them again, the one job he is actually good at. .

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings. Interesting to hear ex Supreme Court judge Lord Sumption entirely support my previously expressed views, that it is very obscure whether the law has been broken. He's made exactly the same points as I did, that the law only speaks of gatherings and in...

Exactly as I expected, delaying tactics. By the time it's all concluded the public will have lost interest and be concentrating on something else more important to them. Like their fuel bills jumping by 50% from the end of March. .

Yes you can ride on the motorway in Britain if your e-bike is capable of being powered above 28 mph to 30 mph or more as you say it is, and you are over 24 years. It's then in law a motorcycle class moped. It falls into the L3 type approval class and the appropriate A1 sub category, like a...

Not so, a legal pedelec is a bicycle in law, expressly exempt from being a motor vehicle in the two and three wheeled motor vehicle type approval law 137/2013 under the section 2/2 (h) exemption. .

Yes, that is the new advice, but as ever our law is confusing. Under existing law if a driver is exiting a side road into a major road when a pedestrian has already started to cross the major road, the driver must give way by law. Of course few drivers have ever done so. And I can see a...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Welcome to the club. Went to bed last night about 23.45. Woke up at 3.10am and then couldn't get to sleep again until some time after 6am. Woke from that second sleep at 9.35am and got up still feeling very tired and still with all the aches and pains of 85 years. At least I didn't suffer...

    Highway code changes

I fully agree, it's common practice in many other countries to have local and national forces. The French have the local Agents du Police and the Gendarmerie. The Italians the local police and the Carabinieri. The USA the local State Police and the FBI and National Guard. There's no...

Like all rules they don't fit all circumstances and create unfairness. For example, take the priority list: Pedestrians Cyclists Horse riders Motorcyclists Cars/taxis Vans/minibuses Large passenger vehicles/heavy goods vehicles Buses are at the end, but I place them ahead of cars and will...

    Highway code changes

Probably not. I knew late last year that this was to be effective from 29th January 2022 and was waiting to see if anyone else had noticed. Of course the hierarchy rules are against us as well as for us, since we are now require to be far more caring towards pedestrians. For example the "give...

Not entirely so though. The little over 72,000 deaths as being due to Covid-19 in 2020 was the figure after recalculation as deaths up to 60 days following a positive test. The deaths in 2021 remain at the 28 days figure at present. Since the first 11 months to match the 2020 total Covid...

Not if over 48 volts, this limit is Europe wide for safety reasons. The voltage doesn't matter though, it's not power. It's only the wattage that is power and the watts can be obtained from 48 volts using more current. 72 volts x 13.8 amps = 993.8 watts 48 volts x 20.8 amps = 998.4 watts .

Including quad e-bikes was one of the less obvious changes made by the amendments to the pedelec law on 6th April 2015. For the same reason all pedelec weight limits were removed at the same time, the intention being to widen the use of pedelecs for goods and passenger carrying, Dutch and...
